"E" sign at temperature reading dashboard

Well, I performed the HVAC reset:

With the ignition off, turn the left hand rotary knob to full cold, the middle and right hand rotary knobs to Auto, press the recirc and econ buttons together and whilst still pressed, turn the ignition on. Keep them pressed until the green lights start flashing then release. When the lights stop flashing the reset is complete.

The result is an alternating AA and 00 in the temp display. AA is not in the fault list above so stumped. I will investigate the ext sensor as a matter of course now.

I will PM for the info, thanks Safrane.

AA is the 'spacer' if you like. 00 indicates no fault found. Typical with intermittent faults on these IME.....

I found another cause of the ‘E’. My heater baffle is stuck in one position, meaning I can’t adjust between the different options for airflow (windscreen, footwell etc.)

If I leave the control knob on the setting that the baffle is stuck in, the E disappears. I also don’t get any error codes, just AA 00. Took me ages (and lots of reading of the forum) to figure this out.

Just need to take the dashboard out now

Well after a week or so in the warm dry garage - no errors for about an hour then outside temp =E popped up for about 10’ or so then never came back during a 6 hour trip today in the sunshine. No lucky 888E either. Suggests that maybe a recent power wash upset the sensor and now it’s dried out?

Water in somewhere at a guess
