"E" sign at temperature reading dashboard

Hi there, first message as a new owner of a dutch 4200 CC '02 with 60k miles on it.
I noticed that on my dashboard I can see the outside temperature. After a few seconds it goes away and I only see "E" after 10 seconds the temperature is back for a few seconds and so on. That E must be e from "error" right?
Anyone here knows what it means?

Your external sensor in the driver's mirror is probably failing or has a loose connection. SImple enough to replace There's some other threads on here.

Welcome to the group, and we need photos :)

Hold the recirculation and eco buttons down together as you start up and it will five you an error code.

This is useful, anyone got the error code list for 4200 air conditioning.
I also have the 'E' display followed by the correct outside temp, but have never managed to find out what
error code AA065 means. Even the main dealer couldn't help.

I found out today that when the E sign is displayed the heater doesn't work anymore. Restarting the car usually gets rid of the error and the heater starts working again.
The heater matrix is replaced 5k miles ago.
Electrical issue don't you think?
I tried to get more info when holding eco and circulation buttons. Where am I suppose to see the error codes?

I found it. It shows aa55
Looking in the diagram above it shows "mixing" sensor error.
Looking around most people mention sticky flaps because of cold weather. Nothing to worry about.
It doesn't happen always so I can live with it for now. I assume you have to take the dash out to fix those sticky flaps. Are those flaps part of the heater matrix unit? Or are they somewhere else?

Buried in the same area, yes. Mine used to do it in the cold as the grease gets a bit thick.

Have you recycled the system?

If not try that as it moves all the flaps to recalibrate. Failing that try each direction setting one by one inc when recycling interior air.

What do you mean with recycling the system?
Resetting?

I had a similar but more random intermittent issue with an old 4200 project car and it was the blower unit in that. Needed dash out and blower unit replaced

4200 Spyder started showing “E” intermittently instead of temperature under the gear numeral.

Now on ignition the temp shows for a few seconds the code 888 preceded by a snowflake and followed by a degree symbol and “E”.

I don’t think that it’s telling me that I have won a Chinese lottery; any info would be appreciated.

Your external air temperature sensor is failing or has a poor connection, possibly through the door jamb connector. This throws the A/C into a hissy fit.

The thermistor can be replaced manually as it were, but the 'correct' way is a new mirror. There's some threads on here where folks have found the correct value thermistor.

I did the same job on Mrs C's Giulietta and it took about an hour.
