As the TR7/8 thread has proved, British cars of that era are very Marmite.

Me, always loved them and glad they have finally shaken that "Back to the Future" tag and are on the rise massively, so a big thumbs up from me.

There are even rumours of a rebirth, stick in a Corvette V8 and I would buy one:

The DMC Delorean was arguably a British Car. OK JD and his company were US based but the chassis and tub was by Lotus, built in the UK and funded with British government money.

Engine was a V6 Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRV) modified from the standard 2.7 litre to 2.85 litre.

As was the gear box... from a Renault 25.

Classic and Sports car magazine have a feature on buying one this month.

Wheeler Dealers were the first of the auto programmes to do one, they picked it up for about $14k dollars. It was in pretty good nick.

For the Love of Cars did one and so did Berni and now some 4 years on they have more than doubled in value.

Now if Mike Brewer does my nut in, Berni .... wow - don't get me started!

Pig ugly bag of sh!t. What is going on? SM, TR7 and now the DeLorean. We seem to be getting into a 'let's appreciate all the worlds ugliest cars' thing. Quirkiness is one thing but cr4p design is another and, IMO, the TR7 and DeLorean have precious few redeeming features.

Is that like saying the AC cobra is a british car then as body and chassis was of british design. It's just carol shelby put a yank v8 in it.

Interestingly, or not, the presses used to form the body panels for the Delorean are sitting in Kilkerrin Bay, just behind my house. They are now anchors for fishing boats.

Another connection with great, or not, feats of Belfast engineering, is that Bruce Ismay retired to this area in disgrace after the sinking of the Titanic. The locals used to call him 'Suas me Bruce' (sue-as-may, which translated means 'up yours Bruce'.

The other thing with these cars was that they just weren't that quick even for back then.....They started out with 200 bhp but ended up with 150 bhp....Top speed 110 and 0-60 in 8.8........Pretty slow for something that looked pretty fast...and in the USA it only had 130 bhp....

The article indicates they were developing a V8 before they went under...and you can put a more powerful Volvo engine into the car as well...almost a straight swap.

Original body's here I believe then fited out over the pond

I thought it was only the final ones that were completed in the US once everything had gone wrong.
It was a shame that it went the way it did as it was quite impressive that it got off the ground at all, especially so quickly.
