Dilemma

Today through no fault of my own , im placed in a really awkward situation need some advice , as you may/ may not know last night around 6 went to my mates tire depot to get my two new Vredsteins put on the rims , had them stuffed in the back of the merc ,

Happily my mate dished out one rim to each of his workers along with the said tires , we went in his office for a coffee , 10 mins later one lad who i know well has worked there for years came wheeling along one rim finished and balanced i inspected it and then gave him the keys to put it in the boot , another 10 mins went by and the last one was put in the boot , said my goodbyes and thanked my mate as he had done them for free , came home and left the rims in the merc overnight

Just put them on the GS and the first rim i took out i noticed had been badly butchered, paint badly chipped about 4 inches long

Obviously i want to complain , my mate wont be happy in fact he WILL sack the guy who did it , but i feel sick with xmas round the corner and the guy loosing his job what do you guys think i should do it'll cost me £70 to get it redone anyway cant charge my mate as he done them for free not sure i should say nothing but i'd feel real guilty the guy getting the sack just on xmas , he might have kids and a mortgage .i know if the guy worked for me ...... no ifs or butts i'd let him go

Hey Loz , feel for you mate. but lets face it , it was a thank you job.
if it were me I would take the youngster to one side and give him a serious talking too. would'nt involve my mate or even let him know.

Gee Loz....its a dilemma none of us wish to be in................BUT how can someone do such a S*H*I*T job...your pride and joy effectively dissed as not being important or not worthwhile taking the proper care of..........................................totally unacceptable.........................free or not.....you expect a high standard......I remember you saying about letting the techs know you knew your stuff and would check up on it......otherwise you'd raise a rumpus.

Photo them with todays date......or todays newspaper beside them........show them to your mate after Xmas.......................assuming he aint sacked him before that or his business hasn't suffered due to this poor performance too much in the interim.

Loz 3 options. 1. You tell the boss or 2. you tell the guy that fitted it or 3. you dont tell anyone

1. The guy gets sacked, you get your wheel refurbished.
2. You speak to the guy who did it, explain that he will get sacked if you tell his boss, and get him to pay for the refurb or at least get him to confess to his boss.
3. You tell nobody, nobody gets sacked, costs you £50 for the refurb, and the guy gets off Scott free and continues to butcher other wheels and stick them in the boot without telling.

If it was my company and my employee came to me and confessed, I would not sack them.

My choice would be 2, then 1. His behaviour is underhanded an you would not want your mate who runs the business to loose countless trade from this poor operator.

Worst is rob dem frank , it wasn't the spotty youngster that did the wheel his was perfect , it was the older guy around 40 , whats pissssing me off is that he said nowt and must have known he did it ,im real angry just now and i know my mate will go ballistic at him , probably dock his wages and offer to get it done aswell as sacking him , trying to swallow it all but i got this huge lump stuck in my throat hehe

We all agree, he effectively "lied" by popping wheels back in car and saying nothing.

Hes going to cost his employer money and loss of reputation( if he hasn't already.......does your mate monitor his employees s work( was it his 1st day on job...was he trained effectively?!)?

Hes not capable of doing the job in light of comment above.

If he gets sacked Loz......its his own fault.

Two things vital to any company is honesty and reputation.....both gone.

Finally what firm can afford to have a £20 job ( no profit in this instance))...turning into a £70 loss per activity?!

Loz, I'm sorry this has happened. It'd make me seethe and it does put you in a difficult situation.

I have to say if it was me in your place I'd say something. It was your friends decision to fit them for free. The two guys that fitted them got paid nonetheless and so should be expected to carry out the work to a professional standard. Botching the job, whether accidental or not, and then trying to get away with it is not a professional standard, and his actions will reflect badly on your friend should it happen again.

You need to say something Loz.....

But why would he sack him....These days you can not just sack someone like that...Has he done it before, has he been warned before.....If this is the first time he has done this then sacking him is harsh and probably would not stand up in a tribunal...You have to show that you have given him every opportunity to improve if his performance is not good.....

But as above would have t say something as this is your property taht has been damged and the chap needs to be told he has not provided the service you expect.

This is clear cut to me - you need to raise your complaint with the boss. The consequence is NOT your concern. Let the 'powers that be' determine the outcome. Just think if you had a customer who wasn't happy in your line of work you'd be expected to deal with it.
After all, you expected your property to be professionally looked after - whether friends are involved or not.

Hi loz

This is a tough one. As a boss I would wish to know. Your a mate and so things can be sorted but if the Guy is doing that to the bosses mates car just imagen how he will treat Joe Public's wheels.

Loz, Tell your mate and see what he says. He may agree to damage the other one for free so that you have a matching pair :-> Duncan
