There have been many peaceful "protests" happening all over the UK, just depends what the media choose to report as well as a few ruining it by acting ridiculous and violent.

^^^ The black mayor of Bristol was asked yesterday why he hadn't taken the statue down having been in office since 2016, he replied ''I haven't had the time...''.

Do you have a source for this? I can't find it. I did see a tweet that he said that he had been busy focusing on jobs and the city's budget, which were higher priority than statues; but that;s not the same thing.

He sounds pretty sensible as mayors go...

Of all the things I've seen and read over the last week about George Floyd and the BLM campaign, this has probably been the most eye opening view of anyone whether they are black or white.

Ah, that's all right then. There is one black person saying that everything is cool (and VOTE TRUMP, by the way), so all that other complaining is obviously just violent trouble-making.

She is also a very credible commentator on race issues, as she also said "Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well."

As a warning be carefull what you wish for , these guys wont take care if your masser is parked in or around there protest route to and from . in fact they will probably target it as a sign of decadence , but of course you'll sympathise with that go down one knee and take it on the chin accordingly

I think all the above, arguing the toss over whether it was right or not to keep the statue is missing a fundamental point.

Ignore what colour skin George Floyd had. It is irrelevant. I would be saying the same thing regardless of skin colour as it is an irrelevance to me. We are too soft on crime in society quite often I fear these days. Crime is a problem, always has been but doesn't always need to be. Doesn't matter what crime, blue collar, white collar, violent, finance or whatever. Crime is crime and when you commit a crime it should be dealt with. Of course not disproportionately but we cannot look to ignore it. It is not responsible and rational behaviour to commit crime and should not be tolerated in society. This does include rioting and criminal damage.

It is not right and can't be allowed just because of one event happened in a different country. If the event didn't happend is it OK to deface property, cause criminal damage or remove and destroy a statue? No, it isn't. The two acts are only related because we let them be. They are not related and are two completely different conscious acts.

Like often happens momentum and circumstances allow our judgements to be clouded and confused during inflamed situations. It is not right what happened to George Floyd but it is being dealt with. That doesn't give the whole world to vent out and go crazy. I don't think this situation would have played out the same if we didn't have all the various Covid related issues we currently have and face.

So she’s in the minority amongst black people. And she’s made some arguably controversial statements in the past. So that makes her wrong automatically? Irrespective of the facts?

I still keep asking myself was this even racism? Where is the evidence that the actions of the officers were racially motivated and would have been different if the guy was not black. The evidence suggests Chauvin was an officer with a history of brutality. Was this just against black “criminals”? I didn’t hear any racist language in the videos which is usually a giveaway when things turn nasty and people lose their cool. So this has been trumpeted as racism just because Floyd was black irrespective of the motives of the officers?

Because it's relevant - my point was that being black and against the statue of Colston staying in place he should have done it back in 2016 when he was elected to office. For the avoidance of any doubt before I get banned I have nothing against his or anyone else's skin colour, race or background - far from it, I'm of mixed parentage myself. Also for the record, I think the statue should have been left in place, for the same reason as a Jew I think Auschwitz should be left as it is - as a reminder of the horrors of the past, they should not be airbrushed or removed from history. History, be it good, bad or indifferent should be kept alive for future generations to observe and learn from past mistakes, not swept away because it offends a certain number of any particular generation at any given time.

And therein lies one of the main problems , selective edited inaccurate reporting , if the media was interested in reporting the truth then they would have reported the full facts but seems its been left to a lone black girl to expose what should have come out within the first few days .

Whilst i dont condone the officers abhorrent actions , its a frightening experience tackling drug addicts high on meth/pcp whatever, its been reported numerous times that it can have the affect of giving the user the strength of 4/5 men ..........................put yourself in the same position ......................its a tough call and not a position i would relish
