Defacing Statues

Realising it is an issue, for some, is the first step for it to change ,.............................................. I disagree with that , just because some have an issue doesnt qualify their case in point so to invoke change, I and many others disagree with the price of road tax , and it seriously affects the quality of my life and my ability to buy more petrol , thats no reason to effect change ............thats the rules im in a minority
,
But I dont disagree with change, and its not something i have just recently given plenty of thought to as im faced with a far more extreme racial unfairness at work when dealing with officials, but the likes of this below do the British cause injustice
Fact is , its the likes of Diane Abbot that are ridiculing their own cause and these are the people who if were allowed into power would change our society beyond recognition for the minorities benefit not the majorities.....................sorry but i thought we lived in a democratic society where the focus was largely on the majority with an equal acceptance for the minority groups whether black white gay transgender or whatever, The quality of life for the majority should not be demisished for any particular minority

Political correctness agreed can be deemed by some to have gone too far , but still certain minority sections are still pushing for it to going even further something Jordan Petersen has a good take on as to the reasoning behind it

Loz, have you just compared racism to paying Road Tax ! Haha. Ok. I don't feel that merits comment.

As for Diane Abbot, she is thankfully old news and a car crash of a politician the past decade. People who destroy thins whilst protesting are also idiots in my book as well. However, it doesn't render the whole thing pointless.

Now, i'm off to send my local councilman another rocket of an email about the price hikes to our local parking permits.... :)

Of all the things I've seen and read over the last week about George Floyd and the BLM campaign, this has probably been the most eye opening view of anyone whether they are black or white.

At last , thank you Mark .......................from the horses mouth

Just to lighten this thread a little...

Had a private tour of Goodwood House whilst staying at Lord March's little place round the corner for Christmas.

I went with the GF and her elderly parents.

During the tour we were shown a fine paining in which the guide pointed out the slave in the corner who looked after the forefathers horses, he was depicted wearing fine clothing.

In law retorted "Oh what a lucky slave"... and clearly did not see the irony in her statement!

I agree Peter , in this day and age its 150% ironic , but when the painting was struck it wasnt out of the norm .............its history , doesnt mean to say that painting should be destoyed or taken down out of view

I can count a Brazilian and a New Zealander among my good friends and I think you are grossly misinformed... In Brazil you just wont get on the white job system if your BAME and in NZ its better but not much, Brazil still has a long way to go.
Sweden has had more terrorist bombs in the last year than any other EU country , largely from unhappy immigrants though.

Have lived in NZ. Lived with and worked with plenty of Maoris and Pacific Islanders. Found very little racism towards them among the white population and they certainly had no trouble getting jobs. Seemed very little friction between races there. Markedly better than in UK. And especially considering they had an indigenous population. Also many people were part Maori and you’d never know unless it came up in conversation. Situation there was In marked contrast to Australia and the aboriginals’ situation.

As for Brazil, a majority of the population consider themselves to be mixed race..... Ergo, being non white is not a minority

Well obviously he does condone it, idiot.
Your Great British champion has spoken, he doesn't condone criminal activity or violence, but going by what he says he really sort of does , verging on inciting it in fact , good job I support Ferrari....

^^^ The black mayor of Bristol was asked yesterday why he hadn't taken the statue down having been in office since 2016, he replied ''I haven't had the time...''.

Getting a bit silly now with Leigh Francis apologising for Bo Selecta! when almost every black person responded to his tearful insta with 'I'm not offended, it was funny' and not BBC have taken Little Britain and Come Fly With Me off iPlayer.

I'm not sure now. I can see statues as we've seen, including Churchills and Thatcher's have coursed issue because they've put there as celebratory. But comedy, well, arts and media really, it's either all or nothing and we just have to get rid of it all or just accept that sometimes there's either crossover, genuine parody, or just say its only a state or only a telly prog.

We've sort of had this before with nations apologising to other nations etc, for various atrocities and the response then seemed to be that is wasn't me, it was my descendants, that's how it was. Like the Italians - should they have apologised for what they did in Britannia?

I've changed by view, the historical context is important, the statues of Colston, Churchill etc should, maybe viewed as celebrant but as a warning.

Why did you have to say 'black'? He is black but why the need?

I'm a little confused about comments that it is an issue I need to go out to oppose, support and protest against. I am not racist, don't condone racism but I am not a protestor and have got the time to.

In reverse are other random strangers I don't know going to go out of their way and spend their time and money helping me fight for issues that I have with the world? No, I don't think they are.

Also in reverse I do find some programs on TV a little racist the other way round and not wholly inclusive. I am not sure this is done with any other sectors of society is ir? Actually maybe there is a few others thinking about it. However still not inclusive for all.

I've never protested, ever. Yet I've been in support of numerous issues that people have protested about. You don't have to protest to be in support. I don't think I ever could!

As for TV, there were loads of feintly racist programmes. It's a bit more diverse now.

Why did you have to say 'black'? He is black but why the need?

Because it's relevant - my point was that being black and against the statue of Colston staying in place he should have done it back in 2016 when he was elected to office. For the avoidance of any doubt before I get banned I have nothing against his or anyone else's skin colour, race or background - far from it, I'm of mixed parentage myself. Also for the record, I think the statue should have been left in place, for the same reason as a Jew I think Auschwitz should be left as it is - as a reminder of the horrors of the past, they should not be airbrushed or removed from history. History, be it good, bad or indifferent should be kept alive for future generations to observe and learn from past mistakes, not swept away because it offends a certain number of any particular generation at any given time.
