Cup holder for Gransport

So I searched the forums and read all the posts mocking those who inquired about a solution... But the reality is I needed something as I drive this car for fun on the weekends AND in a more utilitarian manner on the weekdays. So I wanted something that was stable and useable during the week yet easily removable so my fellow enthusiasts wouldn't know on the weekends.

First I made a cast using modeling clay of the useless tray behind the hand brake. Then my friend used this cast to make a fitted piece (out of wood for now) and this became the base for a generic cup holder I found at the auto store. I'll admit it's not the most convenient spot in the car if you are actually trying to drink and drive. But I use it primarily to transport beverages to my destination.

Each to their own i suppose.

I have considered fitting a central arm rest in the same position. The left arm (or right in a left hand drive car) has always flopped around not having a natural place to rest in the GranSports.

It would have to be made of carbon fibre to match the centre consul.

Then have the slim cubby box with matching leather lid from an Alfa and be adjustable so it could be pushed into a vertical position to access the consul functions and hanfdbrake.

Don't think I have ever used a cup holder......But if you need one then that's a good addition...

I think cup holders are needed in this car for long journeys. Although I do have my wife next to me.

The only cups that should need holding in a Maserati are the D cups on the hottie in the passenger seat!!

I don't use them often but pop the odd bottle of water in there on occasion. Am I missing something? Didn't think they were that offensive .

I had a 3.2 V6 TT a while back & that never had a cup holder which was occasionally an issue. Didn't stop me buying it and wouldn't. It doesn't bother me if it had one or not but if is there I will use it. If not I can't.....but not bothered. Life is too short to worry about cup holders!

The early morning 2 hour commute is considerably more civilised with a cup of freshly brewed coffee from home - I don't understand all this shallow, 'cup-holders aren't for real drivers' nonsense.

I agree, on a reasonable sized early morning journey I always leave the house with a fresh insulated cup of coffee!

Exact reason I bought mine! Not really but it is nice to have rather than not. Useful if you have one but useless if you haven't.

if once your coffee falls on the dash, and you spend half an hour at the road side to clean the mess, then you'll be begging for one!

I think this is my problem. I don't understand why you want to carry coffee with you. I *can't* drink coffee and drive (not because I'm a serious driver, Drew), I just can't figure out how that's ever a good idea (for me, and I like my coffee *hot*). The closest I get is a drink from a bottle (and I tell you, the corkscrew can be *really* tricky at speed), but that rarely.

I drink coffee when I get where I'm going, or if I need to, stop en route.

But each to their own. I certainly not having a pop at anyone who does, I just don't understand.

Speaking of me, when i feel calm, i do get a coffee with in my car. If i want to drive fast, then no coffee enters the cabin. It's just in what mood i am.

I remember ADG selling a GS about 5 years ago which the previous owner had commissioned a carbon fiber arm rest. It looked very OEM. Wonder if Alister has any photos on file?

Can see the appeal but even on the mway in the GS it wouldn't be too easy to take a sip from my cappuccino!
