Someone told me that if you hold back both gear paddles for ??? seconds, the clutch settings would be recalibrated, ie, point of release etc.
So it tried it and after id say...6 - 8 seconds, the display flashed up an AUTO sign with a BOX SYMBOL with a line in it ? then dissapeared.

Does anyone actually know whether I have reset thew clutch settings as suggested, or have I achieved something else which is going to cost me allot of money .............

Well as you say, its the way you reset the clutch in the BMW as iv had one, and as with allot of other cars too, and when I did it, it certainly did something, and all I can think of is it calibrated the clutch settings for the current wear.

Wouldn't it be nice if it actually does ......................

Not heard of this before and very interesting I would appreciate it if someone could follow this up.

We need to know what exactly is being reset. It can't be the PIS point as this can only be set by SD2/3.

I think it will...Seem to remember DL telling Mark to do this in his 4200....I think you have to let the car run for a while then do it.....Mark did it when I was there with him.

Ask first gents...After 8 seconds of holding them, maybe the F1 pump or the relay will get burnt!!! These things are italians, never trust them!!!!!hahahaha

Think i may have the answer. If you pull back on both paddles for 8 seconds, the clutch enters auto clutch mode to hold you on a hill without the requirement of the brakes, that's what the BMW does, not reset the clutch, just remembered.
Stupid thing to do on a car that has the worst clutch in the world for wear anyway, plus to hold you still on a hill would be the brakes out of choice ?

Had to hold my car very briefly on a steep T junction once on the clutch. It was just power on-power off-power on.
The smell of burnt clutch afterwards was £££!
To force a hill hold on the clutch, never!

That's why we have handbrakes! Or, you could always left-foot brake. I find that both work quite well and it does save the clutch unnecessary abuse.

so basically, iv discovered something about my car that is arguably the most worthless feature as it will just destroy the clutch in no time.

Anyone else who needs to find out something pointless, just holla :banghead2:

On my 4200, if you hold on the brakes on a hill, then release the foot brake, the car does not roll back for around 2 seconds, giving you time to hit power and go. They should all be like that I think, or am I wrong..??

Early production models did not have this feature, later models have it described as as "hill hold"

The early models did have this feature originally , but it was lost when certain ecu updates were applied at the dealerships within the warranty period , customers were given the option as to wherther to retain the feature or have the updates applied some did some didn't

It's quite a handy feature to have IMO, can't the feature be put back then, for those who lost it, it does save the clutch..??

Stupid as it might sound Rob it was irretrievable once rhe updates were applied , most had the updates tho from what i understand , only know of one person (Malcolm H) who kept the hill hold
