From driving one after coming from an SMGII CSL box. Honestly neck snapping and very jerky. Maybe the one I drove was not right but it certainly wasn't good.
So you drove one once and make a generalisation about the CC box on the 4200 being 'truly woeful'?

Rob was a brave man letting you do that Dem. I love F1 gearboxes and for me its the only way in sport mode. I'm lucky though being in the motor trade as I drive such a variety of motors. Every time I see Clarkson fooling about driving one badly makes me sick. Watched on YouTube him in a early 360 against a DB7 Vantage just a joke anyway only my point of view.

He was brave.....i did it justice though...now for UMs car....

Clarkson is a *****, he does it for entertainment, said so many negative things about both my cars, 3200 and smart but who cares? I love them both and drive them the way they should be driven.....

Could have been a bad example Contigo, that CC might have not been looked after but even if it was, they need to be driven right, knowing when to lift etc....driving one for a bit does not count....

Had people telling me my roadster is jerky when they test drove it and i laughed, told them they are not interested in buying one....

I wonder how the CC and manual changes are viewd by passengers? When driving my manual Golf I can see the pasenger is subject to much more movement as they are not holding onto the wheel and stick...even more so on tracks...and I guess when a CC changes the driver is subject to forces he/she is not controling

I suspect there's an element of perception as you are intimating. When changing manually, you clearly know when the drive is coming in. On the CC there is always a *small* amount of uncertainty.

Personally I *like* the urgency of 75% throttle / > 4500 up change. Neck snapping? Man up. No one at Brunty was complaining :D

When driving my 42CC hard in sport, I never lift off the throttle when changing up and it's lightening fast. The F1 box is designed to work and being pushed, that's the whole idea. Next time just try it with your foot down, no lift and blip the up-change, it's wonderful..!!

It's certainly better than the CC box on the 4200!

Truly woeful!

Well, your not going to win any friends with comments like that.

I have had a Manual 3200, driven an Auto 3200 and have owned a 4200 Spyder, 4200 GranSport and a GranTurismo S all with CC boxes and they are brilliant, you couldnt pay me to give it up for a manual or full auto. Am about to buy my second GranSport CC as I think they are the best car out of the range (personally)
The manual in my 2001 3200 was a pig, the heavy clutch and over sensitive throttle made for an exhilarating but not relaxing drive. The auto 3200 is better paired in my opinion.

Buy hey, what do I know, I am only about to buy my 6th Maserati.

Lift off? What's that then?

I mean *why* if you're pushing on, would you deliberately reduce the power?

Could be, the M5 is the same it can take a good few weeks to get used to lifting off the loud pedal before changing and then reapplying throttle.

Yes lifting off when you are pushing on is a strange one, not surprising it was a bit jerky..??

I've gone from owning 4200CC

to

owning 4200 Manual

to owning GS CC

In certain driving situations I loved the Manual but wouldn't go back to it now.
CC by far the best all rounder IMHO.

I've driven it once for a length and alot of critics have said the same thing. I am not going to start posting link to youtube vids but if you look it is out there thats for sure.

I'm sorry if I offended you :D

It is a car and we can all have opinions, some like one thing and others like another. I love the SMGII but there are alot of people who loathe it and say it is flawed. For me a manual is a better choice than a 4 speed auto box which gives you little control in the twisties but as I said I am not going to fall out because someone disagrees with me as that would be juvenile.

Indeed, probably best, however to have opinions based on a reasonable amount of experience. Of course 'reasonable' is a variable. In my case about 6 months daily driving before I felt suitably qualified to comment. YMMV :)

Hmmmmm. I prefer comments based on fact and good personal experience, rather than something somebody once saw on the internet. You made a generalisation about all 4200 CCs based on driving one once - I'm sure if you talk to the many owners on here you would find an opposing view.

Contigo,
I think we all get your drift, but you need to drive one that is normal and then offer an opinion based on that, I think you would change your mind..!!
Cheers

Well Guys.... from my point of view, 4200's are nice, the Gransport is even better, but from a purist point of view the 3200GT stands head and shoulders above anything else....
I know in manual form there not the easiest to drive( unless your a wimp) but get it right and there so bloody quick!
