Cheap wheel bearings on Aliexpress

One and the same thing. The ABS system uses the speed sensor from each wheel as its input. If any of them provide a signal out of range or no signal then the ABS system is deactivated (for obvious reasons).

...and traction control gets disabled. Those systems use the wheel speed sensors from each wheel.

And hill hold I *think*

But the Speed / ABS (same thing) sensor cannot be replaced on its own? You have to replace the whole hub bearing assembly?

Correct, I'm afraid. It's of a piece and some of the finest minds here have tried to work out a way around it. None have succeeded

Folks, these cars are not going up in value. Any ideas about what to do? I have replaced three at less than MD prices (labour inc) thanks to Dale.
To be fair I don’t think any car is going up in value at the moment and dare say get worse when Summer ends.
If the Chinese ones are a waste of time I guess a s/h one is the only answer.
Maserati don’t do themselves any favours with certain serviceable parts nla.

Can the sensor alone not be replaced? Or does the corrosion affect the bearing itself so both need replacing? Do they come as a complete unit?
We also think the bearing is magnetised for the hall sensor and the corrosion weakens it. Anyone doing one should clean it up and see if it starts working again

When you say clean it up do you mean remove the hub itself and try and clean up the bearing, or do you mean as part of disassembling the whole unit?

I might have a go at this at some point...stick a scope on it and see what sort of stuff affects the signal. It might help at least to find a temp refurb answer for us all.

@conaero Just out of interest, the Chinese hubs...do they fail fast on the bearing or the sensor, or both?

Maybe someone should find out who is making them in China then work with them to help refine the product so it actually works.

Seems they are part of the way there and have the equipment...

Totally agree as most manufacturers are having parts manufactured in China for them as Genuine parts they obviously have the ability and capability for doing it just needs to be OE specification or better and job done.

Yes remove it, wire brush all the rust off, airline blow it all out and see if it starts working again. Worth a try.
Cheers. Once I diagnose which one it is (that’s if it is a wheel bearing), then I’ll definitely give it a go and let you know.

I'm going to do the same. I think this could be a decent combined effort that might just result in a temporary refurbishment idea at the least...

I am talking about direct replacement new for old, I have not attempted to clean up a bearing and refit it, I am purely saying that someone could try it
