Cheap long term storage

Where I store my car someone has put a MK4 Golf 1.6 automatic and a Mk2 Fiesta Popular in storage. Quite odd next to a McLaren P1 an original Ghibli (and my Strad of course). This, I imagine, is what they are trying to avoid.
Unfortunately this I’m afraid. We only have 6 car storage spaces, on display to all whom visit so we tend to be a bit picky.

Currently we have two Strads (ok, ones mine), a F360 spider manual with 10k miles on the clock and a F328GTB LHD with 15k miles and finally a factory F360 Challenge race car. The Challenge we sold and it looks like we sold the other two Fezzas to one collector also. We like the fact with these type of cars, they are not in and out, they are collector vehicles.

It looks rather impressive also.

So it looks like we are looking for 3 new storage cars and we will have no trouble filling them.

Apologies if this offends but you can probably see where we are coming from. We are not mass storage.

Do you think the P1 owner looks down his nose at your Stradale in the same way?
I would say not. It’s a recognised badge and if they know their onions, they would appreciate the Strad for what it is, regardless of price.

Perhaps, I can’t say I’ve given it a lot of thought. Wouldn’t bother me if he/she did. In my experience that isn’t how it works.

Similarly I doubt the owner of the Golf and Fiesta gives a **** what I think. Although far from looking down my nose at them, I actually thought the Fiesta in particular was nice, I just wouldn’t spend a three grand a year storing them.

I have a Renault 14 I cherish so beauty is definately in the eye of the beholder. I accept I am stark raving bonkers.

All I will say is 5 examples remain in the UK, 2 of which are basket cases.

Makes it rarer than nearly all other models.

You would but you miss my point. I didn't mention price. You have introduced the element of perception and regardless of what you may believe a Stradale represents it doesn't register in hyper car territory. It doesn't even register in supercar territory. If you want to be precious about perception be my guest - it's comedy gold. Let me illustrate, when I was last at Giallo they had a pick-up in for some tracking work. Did it bother me to be mixing with, to borrow your train of thought, something so unworthy. Of course it didn't. Not in the slightest.

Although far from looking down my nose at them, I actually thought the Fiesta in particular was nice, I just wouldn’t spend a three grand a year storing them.
So you're now saying that you wouldn't spend the 3K? My mistake. I thought you were saying the owners shouldn't be allowed to store at the same facility used by those with a P1, or original Ghibli or you.

You are right, it is your mistake.

I was saying that some facilities might want to make their own policies, this is their prerogative and a commercial decision.

You seem to have decided this was about a snobbish dislike of the cars. If that’s what you think, carry on, but that isn’t reality. Do I think it shouldn’t be allowed? No. Would I choose to do it myself? No. These are not mutually exclusive views.

Perception old bean, perception. You think it "odd" to store cars of differing "class" together whereas I don't.
A couple of local facilities have all sorts and in my experience the owners are more than comfortable with the arrangements.
Others, of course, may not be and as you say that is their choice.

I didn’t say it was odd that they are stored
together, I said I wouldn’t store those particular cars myself. I would explain the difference, but I am pretty sure you know.

If you could stop putting words in my mouth, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I find that Big Yellow are cost-effective for storing classic wheelbarrows. No mice, 24 hour access and in a lockable unit.

I mig

I could be wrong but I think the storage referred to is part of the huge new workshop unit and so the cars are effectively “on show”
I would not expect secure storage to have cars "on show". The idea is for the cars to be secure and their location not advertised.

If the storage is not advertised as secure then that's another thing.

There were a number of storage facilities around Silverstone and they were all North of £100 per month plus VAT, but they were all secure locations with modern facilities for ensuring the cars were kept in top condition.

I once looked at if there was away to do this cheaper by finding a smaller unit with a more basic service but I found that to service it properly you could only knock of £10-20 unless you had big volumes. Now over here, especially out of Dublin the availability of out buildings, industrial units is much higher and they are significantly cheaper, unfortunately there are that many less needing this type of service as most have land to build bigger garages if required.

I have used fully secure car storage down here (Pompey/S'oton/Goodwood) area in the past and there's quite a few around. Anything from £120 - £170 for the usual dry, humidified, exercised monthly, cTek connected storage is the going rate. Add another £40-£50+ for a Carcoon.

Mostly classics and higher cost stuff than my car in there when I've been in.

I put my Stag in a farmers barn for 6 months 17 years ago while I had a new garage built.
It was in a fully sealed 'permabag' with additional tarpaulin cover over the top.
I wouldn't today for the security but I can recommend the 'permabag' if you do have somewhere secure.
