David, DZOOMS, who has the Corvette swears by the American cars.

He's had a few over the years I have known him and he never gets any issues with them.

They are low tech big engined and cheap so he has always described them as 'Alot if bang for your buck'

They are not refined enough for me but they do have their place and should not be dismissed out of hand.

Straight line they are fast but round a track or twisty roads they lack balance. His Mustang had cart springs on the back, need I say more?

not really the right forum for an unbiased opinion? The Maserati is all round better engineered than these cars, the american V8s will all be long stroke i think so you get that nice sound we all love in the movies, but an engine with poor rev range. The Maserati, especially the older ones are nicely understated and have class, the american cars are more brash and noisy, and the styling reflects this. both are fun to drive in different ways, and if you have the money buy one of each best way to solve it. I remember having an old T-bird wouldnt corner but sounded good and would wheel spin in blink of an eye, and was fun to drive, but on any thing but a straight dry road would loose in a race to my 3200 any time. all these cars have a bit of "look at me", and all have more power than you will be able to use, its really a question of taste i suspect, since you are not going to race in any of them its all just for the fun of it, or we would all be driving a prius.

Figures on a page mean nothing..............USA vehicles do nothing for me.......don't turn me on visually, stir my soul, make me want to look at one endlessly..........

I have to say I do like the 80's US station waggons (waits for the ridicule); the width, the horrendous fuel economy and the vast space. Oh, and the lovely mimic wood down the sides!

I must say the new Sheby 500 makes a fine noise, but it bearing the Ford badge puts me off.

I think you are trying to justify a Maserati purely on performance for your money. Its all about soul, if you want the fastest car you can get for a fixed amount of Money then Maserati is not it. If you want a car that you will want to get in every day and look at endlessly and take pictures of, then you are in the right place. The American Muscle cars are good value for sure, but lack sophistication and have a different feel to the Maserati.
