Its not an alfa though.....not as pretty
Its also not £45-50K Dem , its toyota's way of filling the gap left by the celica nad the supra's , and has the option of a rather good flappy paddle by all accounts , same revised gearbox and system similar to the Lexus LF-A smart move i think

My thoughts are, its excellent timing for Toyota , and very bad timing for Alfa , they have been dithering far tooooooo long with the 4C , 2 years plus to production in this day and age is ludicrous and Japanese and German manufacturers have proved this, just hope it doesn't back fire on Alfa

.Liz's was that deep red colour....

Nightfire red, also used as TVR cherry red. Beautiful colour.

Torque steer isn't bad, it's a very smooth power delivery and has a limited slip diferential which keeps it reined in. But it's a 20yr old FWD turbo car, never going to be the last word in handling, but I love looking at it. Went to Le Mans in my VVC version once, probably 2003ish, 60bhp down on this one but still kept its end up; tons of space, comfy, and that trick roof!

Got some 16" MG wheels (Hairpins) for it from eBay last night, they'll make it look quite nice. £100 including tyres, cheap motoring, love it :)

Also a rear light to replace a cracked one (£20) and a new roof bag for the glass panels. Remember buying one for £140 back in the day this was... £20!! Love it!

Remember...Alfa only offer a 2 car "range" at the moment......dangeroulsy exposed within the FIAT empire due to this....4C may be too little too late............

The cars I lusted after in my youth, and still do BTW, were Lotus Cortinas, Lotus Sunbeams, HS Chevettes and the like. These days they are all too rare and too expensive.

Adam, IMO it's rather unfair to pass such harsh comment until you have driven/been in one. Cheap speed shouldn't be sniffed at young man.

I used to go to school in a silver Rover 220D, the ride was that bad and the noise from the diesel engine caused the gearlever to shake about, i wanted compensation for every journey i made in that car. Hateful thing, dad got wise and sold it for a new Audi A3 in 2003.

In those days diesel engines were fairly sh1t and diesel cars were generally low spec, as was the suspension. There is probably a big difference between your experience and Lewis's car. Probably best to reserve judgement until you have been in a Tomcat. Who knows, you might find it has merits.

Lots of similar tastes in cars here.
An Alfa 33 Permanent 4 was mentioned (I had one of those).
The Lancia Montecarlo was mentioned (still got one of those).
But four 124's; Loz I am incredibly envious.
I have a friend that was given one by his Dad when he turned 18.
It had a great engine and exhaust as the father was a serious racing driver and owned his owned garage / workshop.
The sound this thing made when you turned the ignition key was every bit as exciting as starting the Maserati.
More so when we were only 18 at the time.

Never known a car that loved being on cam so much as the 1800 twin cam , they sang a beautifull tune , far better than the 2 litre engine , bought a coupe once from a mate that had been banned for DD for 3 years (idiot ) he spent the 3 years rebuilding at no expense spared his 1800 sports coupe,i mean it was mint , all new panels and paint , total engine rebuild , new interior panels and re trimmed seats in real leather ,

After the 3 years was up and he got his licence back he was the toast and envy of the town, But once again on a Friday night he had one over the 8 (idiot) and lost his licence once again this time for 5 years , i ended up buying it off him for £1500 , one of the best bargains i ever had and went on to enjoy the car for a further 2 years , sold it for £3K and boy i wish i had it now , handled like a dream and put me on the road to my Lancia dreams

Well I wouldn't call this an alfa like my my old GTV6 same colour as in the Bond movie... with Roger the Dodger!! (was my one)

But I just bought the wife a new alfa 159 Sports WagonTi (estate for Uk tastes) classic red, lovely 20 rims, all the trimmings,,, can't spec it anymore its fully loaded.. and I think I said yes, because its the best looking sportswagon available today... trouble was she needed something to carry the dog, and not to big!!

Should be good fun for cross country journeys,,, at least I will have two Italians in my stable,,, I just hope the Alfa of new is a whole lot more reliable than my old GTV6 the saleman said they are bullet proof, "and he would say that" but I must say the fit and shut lines looked pretty good... and a whole lot more fun than Audi BMW or Merc which is the current climate choice of wheels... by most parties...

Lets hope it turns out to be a good one... she loves it anyway,,,

Ozzie,

Not her car just examples..

most of the stuff I wanted as a little kid was rubbish (TR7's etc) orthe cars my Dad had - X1/9, XJ6, 130 Coupe etc several of which I've had. Montecarlo's (Scorpion in the US) was based on the X1/9 inner shell I believe. Cracking little cars, loved the 1300 skinny bumpers - was that a "Lido" posted earlier???!! I digress...

The other stuff as I hit teenager-dom was the obligatory Testarossa/Countach 959 then F40, missed my chance on the Lambo, might squeeze a TR in but F40s will always be a lottery win away!! Then as I got my license it was stuff like Cossie's and Saab Turbos all of which were uninsurable, but bound to become worthless. Had several Saab Turbos and ignored the Cossies when I found Lancer Turbos and Starions for bargain money, and so much better built.
