It was good fun from what I remember..I was only 17 so thought I was the dogs in it...All my other mates had old ford and there was me in my 2 seater sports car.....My Dad was a mechanic so I never had any issues with fixing..To be honest it was reliable and never missed a beat.......

It's a shame Fiat never updated and made it more competative as it was a pretty little thing that got left behind...

How was the x19? I bet it was a joy to drive but a pig to fix?

Looking into Lancia Montcarlos of recent I beleive they were quite similar underneath.

Great little cars Matty, apart from the inherrent rust problem , i,m really surprised there were not many engine upgrades , could have potentially been a right little pocket rocket, alas it was one of those cars similar to the Audi tt of taday and considered a hairdressers car

I always had a soft spot for Fiat 124 spiders.
At one stage I test drove quite a few and could not find one I was happy with.
Not that they are common here, but whenever I see one i still think they look great.

Our local Irish rally Champion Cahal Curley( 3 times Donegal International rally winner 72,73,74)....used to park his Porsche Carrera RS up outside his house on the street......we just used to gawp at it.......my sister was the gobby one in our family, asked him if he's take her out for a spin in it once...............she was dumbstruck for a week.......;)

No one had anything other than the odd merc in our village back in the 70s.......all rubbish cars.......scrappers etc

Having had 4 of them i have to agree they are iconic italian fauna , 1 concours one that i bought from Florida , had it close on 10 years and loved it , have to say tho the coupe was the better car for handling

I have to agree with a few already mentioned. Really wanted a S1 RS Turbo, MKII RS2000, X1-9. I had a TR7, but not that long ago. The modified 4.0 V8 made it serious fun - a real 911 baiter! What I wanted most at one point was a Lancia Beta Spyder; very pretty car that was rust prone even then. Very few survive now:

I also almost bought a Triumph Dolomite Sprint. The technology at the time was amazing 2.0 16v delivering a heady 130bhp! Loads when my mates were driving 1.6 escorts with about 80bhp at best. The deal on the one I was buying fell through, so I went and bought an Opel Manta instead!

Cahal Curley was first off the ramp at the start of the 1975 Circuit of Ireland from Ballymena, in one of the most distinctive cars ever to appear here, the Lancia Stratos. 28/3/1975

Not bad huh.......THE most iconic Italian car of ALL time.......:)....?

Similar tastes then Mark , also had a2000 beta spider , i ended up swapping the interior out for a coupe interior, hated the plastic , if you managed to get a good one they were great fun and kinda classy ,
also bought a dolomite sprint as a 6 week runabout inbetween leaves , unfortunaltely i ran it into the ground and managed to get all the circular dash lights on at once (Jackpot) but no money fell out of the bottom of the dash

When i was a nipper (still am really) i wanted this after seeing Tiff Needel thrash it to death.

The original RS4, was 46k new, now around 14k for a good example.

E39 M5, 60k new, 12k for a good one.

The other cars i have wanted were the 550 Maranello, saw David Beckham in his Silver one back in the late 90's. 993 Turbo, best looking 911 ever and a 355 because it is one of the prettiest cars ever, all 3 are still not cheap.

Had an Alfa 33 permanent 4 in the early 90's. Quadcam boxer engine with 4 wheel drive, the four wheel drive transformed the chassis, and it sounded glorious with a straight through exhaust from Autodelta!
Infact had quite a few 'odd' Italian cars over the years, including a Lancia Y10 Turbo! Also an Alfa 146 Ti, super hot hatch that was!

I quite like it, but i just could not spend that money on a Toyota, they have been out of the game for too long. If it is anything like the AE86 or MR2 then it will be a d4mn good car.
