Im on the lookout for a Gransport and would like a few pointers please. Prices seem to vary alot between 20 and 35 so there must be big differences. Whats the best year, suspension, service musts, le model, exhaust?

Any help much appreciated.

Hi JH.....good to have you on the forum and on the hunt......:)

Later models with lowest miles and best condition will command a premium.

BUT.......as ever, how it looks, how it drives and sheaf of comprehensive invoices and stamps( mileage and annual serives) all increase its value and makes it more desirable.

Finally....................DO NOT......buy without getting a full indie inspection....costs about £200-250.........

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum. There aren't a great deal of differences between Gransports as far as mechanicals are concerned. They are price focused mainly on the LE (limited edition) cars commanding a premium over the techno cloth cars. Early 54-05 plate cars are almost all techno cloth with the vast majority of the later cars being LE. An LE gets the following:
Full leather heated electric memory seats, Leather inserts on dashboard, Leather door cards, Leather headlining, Electro-chromatic rear-view mirror, Xenon headlights, coloured brake calipers, Rear parking sensors, Becker Auditorium 200 hi-fi with Satellite Navigation, 6CD Changer and 19'' trofeo alloy wheels and Saetta badges on rear pillars.
All standard cars have the same suspension, gearbox (f1) etc. Custom exhausts are popular with enthusiasts, Larini and Tubi's are highly regarded amongst others. A good service history from reputable specialists is a must, a clutch wear % worn, ideally as little as possible or a new one as its circa £2000 to replace. Finally, any car should have a pre purchase inspection report to show there are no significant issues.
The cars do have few faults to look out for, but are very reliable cars. I buy and sell Gransports on a regular basis, so know most things to look for. Prices aren't so much age but mileage focused and condition etc. If you need any help I'm always more than happy to discuss whether you are or aren't interested in one of the Gransports I have for sale. I also have 2 more cars I know possibly due in soon too. Feel free to give me a call if you wish to 'pick my brains', number's on my website. Hope that's of use to you.

What you buying Dicky, what you buying!?? :)

JamHot....thanks for giving me the 'tune wedgie' - tank fly boss walk, jam nityy gritty....etc.

Not much more to add to the above. Later cars, LE spec are generally favoured. Milage is an influence in price, but IME not a problem for the cars. There's been GSs with 90k + on and I fully intend on topping that! :)

They're slow seller, generally, so take your time and find the colour/spec you want. There was only ever 377 brought to the UK, some of which have gone overseas now......and you could do a lot worse than giving Dicky a call before setting out on your quest. Dicky was a Maserati fan and serial owner long before he was dealing in them.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Bought a Quattroporte for a customer. Lovely, almost identical to TridentTested's car. Thanks as always for the kind words Woody.

Dicky, SatNav on the GS Beker was an option, not standard.

Leather headlining, I was always let to believe this was an option on the LE but I might have been misinformed on that one.

My mistake Matt, I've never seen an LE without leather headlining but there may be the odd one without Nav. I stand corrected.

I am curious about tehe SatNav on these cars. How does it work without a screen to show a map? Voice only?

The small screen on the Becker does display instructions, but it's so small it's nigh-on useless as it's too small for a quick glance. Voice instructions are given as well. After that it's just a case of whether you trust the instructions being given! :D

Anyone that's read the Becker Satnav instruction booklet cover to cover should also be given a medal!

I use the sat nav in mine, but it is rather archaic. I usually have the TomTom up and running as well and it is funny watching them come up with different solutions to the same problem. TomTom usually wins, once it gets going.
