It's this men are from Mars, women from Venus stuff isn't it?
We are definitely different animals, for good or evil and children generally go with the flow until they reach adulthood
(notice I did not say mature there)

Don't you just love thread drift?! This started as a review of the new Ghibli, went through the relative merits of front parking sensors and the Heath Robinson affairs we have in our garages and finished up on a discussion about the ability of the fairer sex to park and put fuel in cars.

It's brilliant.:excellent:

just thinking the same thing....

To try and bring some closure - I handed back the Ghibli this morning and collected my freshly fettled GT from Dick Lovetts ... and a massive bill (expected... and less than I had feared).... extended the warranty for 2 years... just to be on the safe side..

had a great tour of their magnificent workshop... some stunning kit in there... La Ferrari... etc etc etc... and resisted a test drive in an FF ..(just in case it proved too good to resist)

Very glad to be back in a special car...

They've got some lovely motors upstairs in there. As soon as those Euro lottery numbers come in, I'll probably blow a couple of million on motors up there!

Why doesn't my HR Owen ever give me a courtesy car when my car goes in??

To be honest if they gave me a Ghibli to drive I would probably end up buying one as we need a new family car. They are missing out on a real opportunity here.

We have a temporary car whilst the wife's car is being looked at / repaired / written off. I got a 5 door Vauxhall originally they gave us a 2 door Yaris!!! I sent it back - how am I going to get a baby seat in that? Plus I was promised a roughly like for like replacement.

Anyway. The Vauxhall is $hite. It is like driving in a tincan.

I started looking at a secondhand Jaguar XF! You can get a nice spec one for under £20k. Very tempting ... But the wife thinks we are too young for a Jag.

.

I think you've just got to ask...and give them some notice to sort it out... Both Dick Lovett and Marranello have a few diesel Ghibli for courtesy cars... I wanted a petrol one - so they just robbed the sales demonstrator for me....

And tbh ... I might be in the market for one in the fullness of time... but not a diesel .... seems to me the little petrol give a cut price Maserati experience.... less so with the diesel ... strictly for those doing massive miles I think...

Just borrowed a Petrol Ghibli from Lovetts whilst the GT is being fettled...

Some quick thoughts..

It's only the basic Petrol - but plenty quick enough for most... and a potential licence loser... found myself cruising far faster on the M4 than I would in the GT. One of those cars that is always going faster than it feels..

Noise... with the sport button pressed - it's still only really a treat for people outside of the car.. even with the windows down.

Seats v comfy esp the pillow soft head restraint.

Not mucked about with any gadgets .. not my thing anyway..

Finish all as you would expect. - still don't like the wood ... but at least there's not much of it..

Ride a bit lumpy on poor roads - 20" wheels on it don't help that.. - but they do look good...

Does seem to shrink when your pressing on on twisty bits... rather surprised by that - and quite like it..despite the reviews I think the Chassis and handling are pretty good... could be more exposed with the S ... but good enough IMHO...

Brakes - grabby - very...

rear legroom a bit limited for my 6' sons..

Wife likes the look of it - and found it easy to drive and not as intimidating as the GT...

Sort of lacks the sense of occasion of other Maserati... but not had it long enough to find out..

I reckon - at the price point - a nearly new one of these (rather than the diesel or the S) wouldn't be a bad buy at all..

I have got a loan Ghibli whilst my Gran Turismo is being serviced - it is a diesel.

It is quite nice - fast, smooth, relaxing to drive, nice inside, excellent infotainment system (unlike the Gran Turismo!). I'd agree with mosts of the comments here - it is quite tight in the back for my 6 foot plus sons.

Inevitably I compare it to my wife's BMW 5 Series and my car: it certainly has more presence than a BMW 5 Series M Sport but nothing like the drama of a Gran Turismo, which I can't wait to get back!

Good to see the general view of these cars from those who have spent time in them is positive. I've had mine for 3 months now and it's growing on me more and more every time I drive it. It's well put together, the tech is very good, it's comfortable, fast and rare. It definitely has Maserati DNA. By contrast to Bobby Dandruff I'm looking forward to getting my Ghibli back tomorrow and handing back the new QP I was given. I really like the QP way more than I expected to, but I'm not thinking I've bought the wrong car. I've been promised a GranTurismo next time my car is in - dangerous territory as I might like it too much!!

Whilst my GT was in for it's first MOT yesterday I had a brand new diesel Ghibli as a courtesy car. It's not my type of car but I can see why people like them. As said before in this thread..the multimedia system is nice and easy to use and it was especially nice to have DAB rather than the standard FM of my car. I did find the driving position with regards to seeing the road and being able to place the car a whole lot better but I wouldn't want to swap cars.

One thing I noticed was that the doors seemed especially 'light' and not premium enough. Seemed a bit light on the metal for an exec car.
