If you think the pads are missing you’re mistaken. The pad wouldn’t be visible through the hole.

I think you have got it, the front caliper is tiny, but made to look much much bigger!
The casting at the top and bottom does nothing, you can see the disc through the opening.
Look where the brake pipe and bleed nipple is positioned.
The car in question is a new 340d.

Front calliper looks like it's been made to look 3 x the size of the actual 'pots' area... look at me I have huge brakes but no stopping power.

suspect it’s cheaper to have the same calliper for the whole range perhaps…

Looks like a 4 pot to me, you can see the outline of the cylinders in the casting.

This is a non-m performance 4 pot.

100,000 hrs for 8% weight saving.
Jeez, the lengths they go to for high end cars stuck in UK traffic...

For me it was the little dip between the two lumps outlined which makes them not 2 pots.

There is probably the small matter of having seen them on the configurator too.

For me, looking at the weedy rear calipers, the front in comparison don't look 'right', even if a fancy weight saving feature!
On the positive while waiting the basic oil and microfilter service was all they could find to charge me, £213 Inc.vat, which is good for another 2 years/20K miles!
Oh, that includes a lady tech sending me a video that everything is A OK!

, that's cheating, i was focusing on the position of bleed nipple and brake pipe inlet on the OP's photo, it just seemed not enough space for 2 pistons each side

It’s funny how a lot of the calipers are the same brembo stuff for different manufacturers, but you cannot beat a Porsche setup. When you really want to stop, close your eyes so they don’t end up on your cheeks....

Cant think of a manufacturer that used its own caliper be they Dunlop, Lockheed, Girling, ATE, Akebono, Brembo etc
