Chris, I'd be wary of lowering and fitting spacers. One or the other. There's not a huge amount of spare room in the arch once the car is dropped, something may catch if you're not careful!

So it looks like the event may be in jeopardy for 2015 and the future...very sad as this is one event that got me into the mark.

So could this forum take this on and turn it into a country wide event???

The future of the Bristol Italian Auto Moto Festival

The BIAMF has run successfully for the past 12 years without a break and it has been a great success, enjoyed by thousands of car and bike enthusiasts. However, most of the exhibitors and spectators have little appreciation of the work needed in the organisation during the months preceding the event, on the day by all the volunteer marshals and helpers and afterwards in writing the reports for the motoring press.

*

I have been the principle organiser of the BIAMF for the last 11 years and I feel it is now time that someone else took over. We want this event to continue but in order for this to occur, the load of running the event and the Club must be spread more widely. For this reason, we are inviting anyone interested in taking over the running of the event to make contact. Work on the*2015 BIAMF*must start by mid January and I will be prepared to organise the event alongside the new organiser in order to familiarise him or her with all that needs to be done. If nobody steps forward, the event is unlikely to continue.

**** that's a shame. Enjoyed this year however caution is needed as a few of us got some pretty heavy scratches from less than caring members of the public leaning over and brushing past the cars. Not good at all!

Been there since 2008 and never had an issue...and to be honest as a free event I think it it would be a shame to see it go.

Think the issues have been caused by trying to fit too much in.

I would love to go again next year and hope someone rises to the challenge. Must take some organising!

I actually can't see anyone managing it other than Paul. What he achieves each year in such a limited space and with such vast crowd attendance is amazing.

Sad to hear about the car scratches. I exhibited my cars a couple of times in the past but got a bit fed up with 'over-exuberant' members of the public who wanted to sit in the car, start it up, etc. Some wouldn't take no for an answer.

Pat that is what happened to me and I said I would not go again.

Any Italian car forum taking it on would do very well out of it.

I would love that to be us but alas I just don't have the time.

If any member is considering it talk to me I will see what I can do.

Nik, could this be what SportsAlfa.com is looking for?

That's a shed load of work for someone .... Would imagine it would suit a retired person. Its a great achievement putting this on and Paul has done amazing job but the only thing for me is that it maybe needs something new as it has the same exhibitors and the same cars there year on year.....

Yes it is a **** of a lot of work. It's a pretty thankless task, meetings with the Council, local traders, insurance and then trying to recruit marshalls etc
I think I can speak for all attendees when I say a great big thanks to Paul for all his hard work over the last 12 years.

Maybe us Italian car/bike enthusiasts might need to recruit a 'paid' organiser?

I wouldn't want to do the work myself so certainly wouldn't expect anyone else to volunteer.

Nik, could this be what SportsAlfa.com is looking for?

Could be, now you got my brain working ;) Would have to be a jointly organised with the IAMC, and the sportsitalia banner me thinks. If we coud get a small team together then maybe, just maybe.

Now that is not that bad an idea, the good thing about this is we want to see it continue. Think it def needs looking into :)

Unfortunately I, like so many, have taken the efforts of Paul (and others) for granted. The BIAMF is a true highlight of the year for us Italian vehicle fans (particularly for us in the South West). It would be such a shame to loose it.
As I've said I'm not offering to volunteer myself but I think the entry fee for the BIAMF (or membership fee for those of us, like myself, in the IAMC) should perhaps be increased to provide some recompense for all the effort involved. The BIAMF must attract 3-400 vehicles so an additional £1 charge could raise say £400 to cover the admin costs of anyone - or any group -prepared to undertake the (hard) work involved. It is of course possible that the Council would not be happy for the BIAMF to become a commercial event (ie a 'profit' element).

David, I think a £1 is not enough, I would be more inclined to double it to a tenner a car, its nothing, you burn more than that in fuel revving the cars up on the hour.

I really would like SportsAlfa to undertake this event but I just can see how I can manage it. I can pull in help from SportsMaserai and perhaps do it under a global brand that I own of SportsItalia.co.uk

If people are serious and we can get a committee together with say 10 I will consider it along as Paul would agree to assist for this year in the handover.

Also, I would also like to address the matter of the general public crawling all over the cars and unintentionally scratching them, its something I hear loads of complaint about.

OK, I'll start the ball rolling:

BIAMF Committee:
1. Conaero
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

2 guys from SM I would like to put forward would be Safrane and AndyK, they are well known in that area as they are local to it, guys, what do you say?

I have emailed Paul to inform him of our interest.

Conaero,
I'm a member, but not an official of the IAMC, so I can't claim to speak for the club. I think Paul's request was for a club member(s) to take over the running of the event rather than loose total control - it is the IAMC's flagship event.
The 'what to charge' element is of course difficult - the idea being that any revenue, after costs was donated to charity - obviously there might be issues if new operators were to attempt to run it on a for profit basis? I suppose my notion would be that the organiser receives an honorarium rather than a wage.

Ah, I missed that, I thought it was Paul walking away and the event would have ceased. If its running it on behalf of another club, its not something I would be interested in.
