The fact that less than half of the work force are in the union seriously dents it's power. They can't have a unanimous vote and if they did the greater part of the work force could tell them to do one. Perhaps that's why they aren't as militant as they used to be. In my company, before the merger, the two different companies were both represented by Unite. Since the merger the two Unite representatives won't sit in the same room to discuss union action/ business. I guess you are one of the lucky ones Miles.
