Hi Andrew, A very basic question without wanting to teach you to suck eggs - Is the car in neutral? Won't start in gear without your foot on the brake.

A couple of other things - Is the battery a Fiamm? If it is then it's most likely the original battery in an '04 car. A bit basic in terms of modern battery technology and a bit long in the tooth now.

Has it been for a long run recently or just short stints? Short stints will drain the battery more quickly (aircon particularly), although 11 / 12 volts should be plenty.

Have you a tracker fitted? These have their own battery, but once the tracker battery is shot, it will take its charge from the car battery and drain it quite quickly.

Lazy window return could point to low battery charge, but lazy windows are a known 4200 weakness. Mine has a lazy drivers window.

not in gear, not a fiamm, but only short trips last week and has a tracker fitted which makes me think it needs a new battery

Andrew, I think your on the right tracks. The trakers internal battery pack...packs up after about 5 years and then scavenges from the car battery, voila! Mine is under the rear parcel shelf, you simply unplug it.

All you have to do it open the arm rest, pull out the back panel and undo the 4 bolts and lift out. Then you can see under the parcel shelf. Its only a few obvious bolts to take the whole thing out, but you can work out which lead goes to the tracker and just unplug it out.

Conaero, maybe best to delete the details of where the tracker/battery pack is....just in case.......assuming Andrew has read it by tomorrow....you just never know!!!!

just some info if anyone is interested, the older version of tracker such as mine only draws power from the car battery whilst the engine is running so should not use any power whilst the car is sitting in the garage over winter. So say tracker technical department.

Hmm interesting...., so if someone hauls it onto a low-loader in the middle of the night and boogers off with your pride and joy, no alarm trigger? I admit I know next to nothing on the subject, but it doesn't sound right to me?

I had the battery on my 52 plate 4200 flattening on numerous occasions which resulted in a new battery being required so I fitted a Maserati battery conditioner and it works like a dream. It seems that from the info above that it was the Tracker draining it. The local main dealer told me that the conditioner was fitted as standard on Ferraris and I think is now standard on the Grantourisimo and QPs, but can't swear to it. Hope my two penneth helps.

Thanks for that mas52, Your first post I see. A warm welcome to the forum. How long have you had your 4200?
