On a Covid related note, I have a potential client who last year turned over £79m (they are a frozen food manufacturer who supply pubs/schools etc).

They have put their company onto (effectively) special measures as they're not sure whether they will survive in the current climate.

So from £79m turnover last year to being on the verge of going bust is very worrying. Very worrying indeed.

I fear the end of next month will be an absolute bloodbath for a lot of companies when the furlough scheme finishes.

The company Mrs C was keeping the book for went from revenues of something like £800k per month to £60k.

It's not good for sure. I wonder how necessary it was. Or indeed will be.

Time will tell. 40,000 deaths are not to be taken lightly, but how many were actually from Covid?

I'm guessing the non Covid, Covid related deaths will be much higher (suicide, operations cancelled etc).

Who knows, all I know is that my funeral director friend was receiving customers who had covid on their death certificate and they died from something else/never tested.
I believe there is a financial benefit if the death was registered as covid...

40000 deaths in the battle
If the bulge in 5 weeks( both sides )
Beginning to wonder if it’s all been worth it, as I suspect our next level of lockdown could have been now we started. That said, I know how hard it is to hit a
Moving target.

I had heard something similar. I don't understand what financial benefit there could be though.

The unfortunate thing with all of this, is that history shows, that when there is a pandemic, the second wave is invariably the biggest.

A few weeks ago some medical expert said that a best case scenario (if we don't contain Covid) is 80-120,000 deaths over winter. Which is crazy!
The same medical expert who said that 40,000 deaths before winter can be considered a good result. (All things considered).

Sobering to say the least.

100% But. What's the alternative if it gets out of control?
By out of control, lets say you have an R number of 5. And then you have 5000 infected per 100,000.

In no time everyone will have it, or have died of it/ recovered or be seriously ill.

You'll have hundreds of thousands of deaths. The majority will be made up of our parents or those with a medical condition.

Or, alternatively everyone is out of work and the country is totally bust, then we will have lots of other types of problems, deaths etc etc. Heads you win, tails you lose!!

As long as it wasn’t he same expert who declared the military would be deployed in London. :)
From the videos that keep cropping up on facebook there's only one weapon that needs deploying on London, even the Queen has moved out

Some might argue that they needed deploying to deal with the protests, rather than the police kneeing in front of said protestors before they defaced the war memorials.

Interesting research out of Oxford University today: COVID19 was not the main cause of death for nearly one third of virus victims during July and August

Throughout the pandemic the figure has been roughly 7,8%, but has climbed to 28.8% probably due to the hugely increased testing, and, of course, far more people have had COVID.

The team are apparently concerned that the overcounting will get worse as more people catch it with minor or asymptomatic cases, and that thousands more will die because of the response.

Bloody glad I'm not in charge.

Well it's the only way now, it is going to sweep through the country with schools open again and bars....if people wore masks in the shops (most I see around here can't even follow that rule) and sanitized then it may be easily contained but people just don't understand or want to.

O
Well, that's definitive then.

Interestingly most people I see in the shops are wearing masks. But your view is not unique, that's for sure.

C
on my journey down yesterday stopped at Gloucester services on M5....went to loo...signs, use this urinal( big effing sticker above) to social distance...I think just about everyone apart from the stickered ones were being used.....I used a cubicle....
Where we live everyone Is using masks, where my daughter lives the Tesco express must b3 a covid free zone as no one was using masks. I watched for 5 minutes and decided we didn’t need milk that badly...

With respect to your funeral director friend I am not sure how he or she would know the cause of death other that what is written on the death certificate, unless they are conducting their own PMs which of course they won’t be.
There continues to be a lot of speculation that deaths are being miss diagnosed as covid / covid related and this will continue I am sure, fact remains that there are tens of thousands of excess deaths with no other plausible explanation being put forward.
