Hello I am newly registered. Can anone throw any light on this. I have an 03 Spyder which has had an intermittent fault with the roof failing to close totally on one side and so the cycle does not end and the windows don't go up. Meridian have had car in twice but cannot get fault to occur. It has also stuck on the way down once or twice with the backoff side corner not releasing.

Hi Andrew and welcome to the forum. I occasionally get that very same problem with my spyder. It's a pain in the ***. I took the cover off the underside of the tonneau cover (boot lid) and took out the motor. 2 allen bolts and 2 connectors. I greased the mechanism, put it all back and it worked fine. However, it started to do it again every now and again and when it does I partially raise the hood so the boot lid comes up and I give the motor a couple of sharp slaps with my hand and it always works. It's almost like I am giving my misbehaving Italian mistress a spanking for being a bad girl! Try it, you might get to like it!

Benny, I don't have a rag-top, but I think I'll try that anyway :D

Welcome Andrew, sounds like Benny has the right idea.

If you get stuck, Mike Roberts is a whizz with the hoods and he is only in Fareham so go see him, you will save a small fortune as he only charges £40 an hour or so.

I'm convinced that it's just an intermittent electrical snag. Probably just a connection in the electrical connector that's a bit hit and miss. I will get to the bottom of it one day this summer.

OK Its not my Maser but the Volvo roof has to be re-programmed by the main dealer to re-learn its paramiters, had this done once after some toe-rag tried to force it open to nick stuff. I am surprised the main-dealer had not doen a re-set as their first point of checking as this should tell them if any mico-switches are faulty and the gearing is out

Morning Phil. I'm hoping for the same thing. However, with a 200 mile journey to get to DMS we should know if all is Ok by the time we get there. I will hopefully see you there.

Thanks to all that replied

Hey thanks to all of those who responded to my roof problem. Still there but intermittent. Is going for service soon so will ask Meridien to look again. Will let you know how I get on. On a positive note, clutches on the cambios are not known as their strongest point. When I bought my Spyder in August 09, it was recorded as being 55% worn. Have done 11k since then and think it is still just about ok. Far better than my last one and the reason is I think that when stationary in traffic I always select neutral. Seems to have made huge difference. Last one lasted 9k in total

Andrew, my hood 'problem' is still there but intermittent as well, I guess you just learn to live with it; it's called character! I always select neutral when stationary as well. I've done 8k hard miles since November and mine was showing about 65% worn about a month ago. It feels like it has plenty of life left as it's still smooth and doesn't slip. If you start to get any roughness in the clutch, get your ECU parameters reset as it seems to work wonders, at least, it did with mine.
