Is it going to make a jot of difference what bike I get if it will mainly possible only be used indoors? I know less than zero about bikes!
for the trainer no, although you will need the right cassette to match on your trainer. (you can take the one of the bike but note that some bikes may be shimano/campag etc)

Honest answer to this is no - I’d be inclined to go to your local decent bike shop (if you have one) and buy the cheapest second hand road bike they’ve got which they say fits you properly...

The fit of the bike is much more important than the quality of the frame or the components.

My wife tried my bike on some structured workouts (like a spin class) enjoyed the setup but hated the seat on my bike, she's now looking at getting a ladies bike to use on it.

Thanks again all.

I am guessing a road bike would give the more authentic riding experience and possibly more comfortable for indoor training that a hybrid or mountain bike style?

Road bikes and comfortable don't go together ! , joking aside Road is ok but your bent over a little more, mountain would probably be more comfy but im not sure about the cassette configuration.

I've just placed an order for a Taxc Flux click and collect from Halfords St Albans. As an AA member using the AA app in store that will get another 10% off ;)

Will have a look to see if they have a cheap bike to kick me off at Halfords. Can also try some sizes out and get a feel for what is most comfortable.

Thanks all for your help, advice and opinions ;)

A cheap Boardman should do the job. Or Carrera, you can even use them outside when the weather improves.

Don't forget your cycling shorts though!

Id be up for that...its not a trick and you will all be on trainers in your garage???

Matt - Maybe we could look into some nice Sportmaserati branded Lycra? Or perhaps a Sportmaserati kit for our virtual avatars on Zwift?

Just wondering how that conversation would go. Something like:

Good afternoon - I'd like 50 Ron Hill Tracksters with S&M on them please.
Riiiiiiight :blushed:

Have you seen the Maserati branded cycling kit? Looks excellent!

I have, and I agree... I passed a bunch of cyclists who were wearing it in my GTS a while back and got a nice wave and cheer from them!

Edit: have just read my comment and wish to be clear (before one of the grammar pedants arrive) - the cyclists were not in my GTS. I was in my car, and passed several cyclists wearing the Maserati kit...

I fancy a folding electric bike, that I can slowly turn the juice off as I get fitter, I am so weak now, after heart issue and pancreas, I'm kind of wary of overdoing it despite doc saying just go for it...

Bit of a minefield tho, some I see advertised are technically mopeds in UK, need insurance, number plate etc....

Have to say, I'd *probably* take the docs advice over this lot's :D

C
I know! But it's the fear, I went swimming and whilst a poor swimmer, only learned to swim about 7 years ago, I can do a length or two, but I'm exhausted, more poor technique, ticker doing 10 to the dozen, I can feel it pumping and it's very disconcerting.

Maybe cos I know now I have this issue and am aware of it.

Having said that when I was in Dublin last year I bought a regular push iron, nothing fancy, I lived Northside in Raheny, collected bike in Bluebell I think, Southside, something like 15 miles away. To ride back Google maps said 49 mins, took me 2 hours but I did it! Stopped a few times, fecking chain came off several times and needed a bollock-break or two, seat not the best. And I had my laptop bag with laptop in it. Can't takes bikes on the LUAS, so had to ride.

Quite enjoyed it actually, maybe I'm being a bit soft on myself....
