Just had front & rear re-sprayed, not finished just yet, has to have final coating on and waxing, I will collect Saturday lunchtime. Apparently the rear comes off quite easily, but the front took them around 6 hours to take off and be ready for prep work. Bigger job than they thought..!! They have also done one sill due to scratches and the fabled rear offside under the rear light, this had actually developed in to a small hole, but has now been sand blasted, brazed and a lot of other stuff I can't spell..!!

Interesting that you appear to be running the exhaust manifold CAT configuration. Didn't think there were any 4200's set up that way in our neck of the woods?

Miles,
You will need to clarify that, I'm not sure what you mean..??
Newton,
I assume yours in bigger bits then, all over the garage is it..??

Hi Robert, From the photo, your primary cats are part of the exhaust manifold rather than down-stream of them. It's common on the GS, but I wasn't aware this set up was on the UK 4200's, though your's is a facelift, so perhaps that makes sense.

Here's the Eurospares diagram, which lists it as the US / Canada variation...

I don't know about pi55ing higher, it was certainly pi55ing all over the garage floor! But yes it is in many bits indeed...

I look at that diagram and I can't come up with a better way to strangle the sh!t out of a V8 than that, other then forcing tennis balls up the tail pipes. It is a truly awful design and, IMO, it is the moral duty of any 4200/GS owner to rip the f*cker off and put something/anything better back on.

OK I get it now, so to replace those would be mega bucks as the manifold has to come off and be replaced...NICE..!!

Last I heard the Larini manifold and sports cats were £2.4k. Mine came with them fitted and I'm rather glad she did. The first, and best, step to where she is now.

That's a heck of a price Ian..?? Is there a distinct improvement in performance, or marginal..??
Picked her up from the body shop this morning, chucking it down with rain, so she had to go in the garage wet with bits of mud on her. A wash tomorrow I think..?? I must admit she looked like new, excellent finish. Only one minor thing, the last crew to take the rear off apart from not doing that good a job, broke one of the sensors then glued it back together so that it worked. So I now have to buy a new sensor, take it in for spraying, then take the car back for the back end to be removed and the sensor fitting. The joys of getting things perfect and working..??

I'm afraid it would be more than that Rob, unless you de-Cat.

The sports cats are £2.5K before you buy the Larini de-catted manifold. :( :(

It can be done a lot cheaper if you can find a friendly exhaust bender. Remove the front cats, replace the aft cats with 200 cells and the two ridiculous 'crush' sections with four small cross section pipes a la Larini. Job done.

Hodroyd - I have the same problem with the rear offside rust under the rear light. May I be so forward and ask what the wallet damage is likely to be? I'm also going to get the wheels refurbished and some of the leather brought up to scratch. Should look as good as new after which isn't bad for an 11 year old daily driver. :)
