3200] What could make the "ERROR" light on?

Hi guys,

Just wonder whether there is any list to let us know what could make the "Error" lights on the dashboard show...

This morning, I turned my car to MAR position and it showed "Error", I always wait till the dashboard to stop blinging before I start the engine. I did the same and the engine started as normal. Then, a few moment later (I think after 10 - 20 seconds), the "Error" light turned off itself; and I drove my car without any problem at all.

As far as I encountered, "Error" light comes out somethings when it said to be "Oil Pressure" and this comes together with the oil pressure gauge warning light and red word "Oil" on the dashboard. "Error" also comes out sometimes when I drive thru a bumpy road that the "Error" message should comes from the suspension (I was told this by the car's previous owner).

However, for this time, it is very new to me, the "Error" light comes out even before I started the engine; and in fact, I was using my car in these few days without having problem... No "Error" light came out before I stopped the engine before this morning....

Meanwhile, believe that this "Error" light is independent from the CEL, so, even the OBDII reader should not record any fault code as well... So, just curious whether anybody knows in what situations, the "Error" light could come out?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Michael.

Mine does the same occasionally - I switch off, wait a few seconds, start again once again allowing the beeps to stop before cranking the engine.

If it goes off (which it has every time, so far - I don't worry)

Suspension actuators I think, if they were maybe a bit sluggish , they run up and down at start up. Try again and you'll probably find they are ok.

Yes I agree, i think that is suspension actuators (on top of the shock absorber), sometimes they get a bit sticky and become intermittant. The error light should come on before you start the engine as part of the system check.

Could also be shock absorber but with it coming on over bumps it does sound more like one of the actuators. You can often tell which one by getting somebody to turn on the ignition whilst you feel the actuator to see if it goes through the initialistaion routine.

Worth checking that the F1 pump is priming properly as well. You should be able to hear it as you unlock the car and it should prime for no more than a couple of seconds.

Hi all,

Thank you very much! Good to hear that it is not something that I don't expected. :D

Best regards,
Michael.

There was a thread on here somewhere concerning the actuators..??

Each Actuator should move twice one way and twice the other way during it's system check, if it does not, it's more than likely faulty. Dicky Grace did have some spare actuators, a member and sponsor on here.

Hi, Thanks a lot for your replies.

Could be a bit silly for asking.... however, just make sure I understand correctly.... So, the actuators are used to set the hardness of the suspension, am I correct? So, would there be any problem if the error message keep coming up and going off itself automatically? I am not sure whether I am correct or not, worst come to worst is the suspensions are on different hardness, which may affect the driving experience? Well... I am not a fast driver (in fact, it's hard to go fast in the city anyway), so, even the hardness of the suspension are a bit different, shouldn't be a big problem, right?

Well.... I am not planning to leave this problem not dealing with... just to see how urgent it has to be fixed only... if it is not an urgent one, maybe I will wait till my next service by my indy and ask him to have a check....

BTW, if the actuator really need to be repaired, it sounds it's not cheap, around 600 euros for one (although still find one at 295 pound sterlings at ebay)? .... Well.... another "investment" on the car then... sigh!

If it is an actuator, it's sometimes caused by a poor connection at the plug or by a fault with the gears which can be fixed by replacing them form here: http://www.captainzcnc.com/

The plug problem just needs a spray with some switch cleaner and a slight adjustment of the pins.

Hope this helps,
