3200] What could make the "ERROR" light on?

Unde',
The actuators continually move whilst you are driving, not just once to set hardness. As you corner the actuators will stiffen the shocks on the outside of the car / bend, so as to keep the car stable and reduce wallow.

My ERROR light was on for about 12 months and I never put it in a hedge so it's not an urgent problem to worry about.

I looked at the Corvette route when I eventually got sick of the sight of the ERROR light but it was even more expensive than Maserati so didn't look any further

Thank you guys! Well... so, believe that it should still be fine even if the ERROR lights on in case I am not driving aggressively then....

Well.... my challenge is that the ERROR light comes out and goes off... say, even for this morning, everything is fine. However, the ERROR light turned on when I was reversing slowing going to the lift of my car park, what I did was just reversing and hitting the brake. Somehow I kind of feeling like the ERROR comes out when I hit the brake (but not always the case). Then the ERROR light went off after I reach the ground floor and start moving the car.... (I used handbrake and turned to Neutral when my car is in the lift and not stepping on the brake). So, somehow, it is hard to tell whether it is the actuator problem or the brake pressure switch problem...

Ummmm.... would a diagnostic with SD1/2/3 can see the history and find out which part sent the ERROR signal? If history record retained, believe it would be worthwhile to go to the dealer here and ask them to have a check.... just worry that the ERROR light doesn't come out during the diagnostic and nothing could be found by the dealer....

Cheers,
Michael.

Hi Michael,

As far as I know, the brake switch and the suspension system operate on different ECUs. If your ERROR light comes on (certainly on my car) it indicates a problem with the active suspension system rather than the brake pedal (which shows up as an ECU error). If I was going to take a guess, I'd say that because your light doesn't come on straight away during the diagnostic phase when you switch your ignition on, it's likely you have a poor connection on one of your actuators' plugs which causes it to go open circuit when you press the foot brake.

You can get a SD2/3 check done to find out which one (as far as I know, no one has yet managed to crack the Bilstein suspension ECU in the boot with a non-Maserati tester) or alternatively you could disconnect, clean and adjust the pins on each of the actuator plugs in turn. The easiest ones to get to are under the bonnet, the rears need you to strip out the boot liners and reach down the side of the fuel tank.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your detailed reply! Really, it's a good idea to disconnect and clean the connection first. Well.... will try to see whether I can do it myself... otherwise, may let my mechanics to do it. 'cos I can locate the actuators (at least in the front), but they are either under the water tank and some other parts..... seems like it is not easily accessible using my bear hands, could involve removing of some other parts as well.... Well try to look into it during the weekend. Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Michael.
