Hi:

As all of you seem to have between 2 and 15 cars - I wonder if anyone can give an opinion on an Evoque.
I am seriously thinking of getting one as a second car - especially for the winter.

Any opinions on the Si4 vs SD4 Dynamic?
Any must have options or anything to look out for?

Or importantly any SUV alternatives I have missed which aren't boring...

I drove an evoque & the lincoln back to back and I hate to say... the lincoln had better more european fit and finish, parts, ride quality, etc etc etc than the similarly loaded evoque. Decided to pass on both and get a TD6 Range Rover, then drove that and it rode like a total pile of ****, even driving 2 diff models with different wheel/tire setup incase that was the issue. It wasn't. IDK what to do on that front.

I have had a few of the Volvos on weekly rentals.

They are fine but the diesel engines are not that smooth. As for the R versions...what is it with cars these days...do they need to be all black with oversized wheels!...I prefered the SE.

You need to drive one Iain and see hat you think. I think they look good and when I was getting one as a company car they felt good to sit in but I never got to drive one and ended up with the Jaguar XE. I was having one as a company car to begin with as my wife loves them. People will tell you to get something else as they have been perceived as a ladies car but when I travel up and down the motorway most are driven by men.......Plus they hold their value really well and there is a reason they have sold a shed load of them....I like them but get out and drive my friend.

My sister has an Evoque and likes it but she isn't a car nut or knows too much about cars. It is a White Evoque....says it all. Decent enough motor but like many Land Rover cars these days I think a bit pricey for what they offer/give. There is better value elsewhere. Depends what you want. It isn't that big or spacious.

The Volvo diesels also seem to be a notch behind others & a bit rough. The newer petrols in most cars are pretty good these days. The old XC90 I have is great. I had a D5 diesel ages ago & had it for 2 weeks as it was rubbish. The V8 petrol I have now drives like a different car & tons better.

What is the budget & remit?

I have been in the Lexus RX** series. Very popular in the US where they have a bigger range across both sedans and SUV's in Lexus. If I was in the market for an SUV I'd be tempted with a Lexus. Might be worth a look?

Iain, all depends how much you want to pay but if you have a choice of the Evoque or the Jaguar F Pace take the F Pace......Think used ones are in the 30's just but it would be a diesel.

I bought a new Evoque last December and love it. But you need to get a post 0ct 2015 car as that is when they were updated. The new engines are much smoother, quieter, etc.

Spec wise we didn't have to add much, but went for the Tech Pack, heated steering wheel and gesture opening tailgate. Brand new it came in at just below £40k, so way less than an F Pace or Macan or Levante (as examples).

Plenty big enough as a daily. Though we have the big supercharged petrol Rangie as well for when we need yet more space.

Depreciation is very low on the Evo as well, which is a bonus.

Definitely worth a test drive. Oh, don't buy it in white!

Must admit the Evoque is on my radar to replace the Audi on lease, along with the Alfa Giulia.

As it's a lease car I don't really care much but do like the SUV experiance...makes the Maz and Spider feel even more special.

What about the jag F-pace?

Hoyin : Love those but too pricey for a second car ATM. Would def get one though

Andy : Agree with you - incredible how well they hold their value. One is on eBay, 5 years old with 148,000 miles and gone up to 20k!

Quite tempted by the dynamic version as I like the styling , don't want to go much over 25.

I really don't like the interior styling on the volvo.

The other option is a nicely specced Q3 but it just seems dull to me compared to the Evoque

Evoque is fine but if you want diesel you can get the Disco Sport for similar money.

The Si engine is rare so might be hard to find used but I would understand buying it new - faster - but I think it is only available with top end spec. Bear in mind that JLR will being out it's own range of petrol fours at some stage - the Si is a Ford engine.

There are deposit contributions on for Black Friday on both cars.

Budget is 20-25 so i think it sounds the best option in its class.
Interesting you have one Ewan - must have something special to be amongst your Cars!

Conaero - am I crazy to be considering combining the GTS and potential Evoque for the Guilia QV?

Hi Bob- Thanks, I did notice that - just got an email through. I think it still might be a bit pricey for me new.

There are a couple of SIs I am agonising over.... I had a diesel before and just hated the sound.. One is my perfect spec and only done just over 20,000 miles. Why are they so rare? Worries me a bit.
I would take it in a second but they wont take part exchange so just waiting to move the mito.
Am i asking a stupid question - what is a JLR?

If you can get an Si you like I would buy it ASAP. The market wants economy and thus diesel but most people don't understand how small a percentage of vehicle ownership costs fuel actually is. If you are buying used the diesel v petrol relative pricing is in there so get it done!
