Well the big day arrives on 27th September. Almost a year of gruelling training and I finally have to cycle London to Barcelona.
I doubt I will get too many more posts in before I go but hope to be a lot more active in the forum when I get back.
If you wanna follow the progress of Captain Slow, my itinerary is below:-
Itinerary
Day1:- London to Portsmouth and dinner with Matt if I get there in good time. The ferry leaves at 10.45 pm 85miles
Day 2:- Arrive Caen and a relatively short ride to Vimoutiers 45 miles
Day3:- Vimoutiers to Nogent le Rotrou, a hard day with plenty of niggly hills 66 miles
Day4:- Nogent le Rotrou to Ozains cycling through the Loire Valley so relatively easy 78 miles
Day 5:- Onzain to Tournon Sant Martin, a definate hilly day 66 miles
Day 6 Tournon Sant Martin to Roumaziers Loubert and more hills 76miles
Day7:- Roumaziers Loubert to Riberac and the hills are getting steeper 61miles[/B
Day8 Riberac to Duras, short mileage but loads of hills 55 miles
Day 9 Duras to Moissac, a lot flatter and much of the day will be cycling along the Canal du Midi 86miles
Day 10 Moissac to Fontbeauzard- More of a restful day and not too much mileage still following the Canal du Midi 48 milesDay 11 Fontbeauzard to Carcassone passing through Toulouse 73 miles]
Day 12 Carcassone to Port Leucate and my first sight of the Mediterranean 72 miles
Day13 Port Leucate to Roses Leave the French Riviera and a hard day of climbing, my first taste of the Pyrennees, crossing the border into Spain and then dropping back down to the Mediterranean 72 miles
Day 14 Roses to Lloret de Mar plenty of hills and very busy roads passing through Girona (71 miles)
Day 15 Lloret de Mar to Barcelona - A horrible day on the hilly and very busy coastal road to Barcelona 50 miles
This is the coward's route. A brave cyclist would have taken on the full might of the Pyrennees cycling through Andora but given my life of little exercise 1,004 miles and some 48,000 feet of climbing is enough of a challenge for me.........Anyone know where I can get a bum transplant
