I'll (try to) be clear. Totally support BMI as a measure. However most don't need BMI yet. Once they get to within a stone or so of a sensible weight, then BMI becomes a useful metric.
It can be de-motivating for someone that thinks they need to lose a few pounds to do a BMI calculation and find they actually need to lose a few stone (or KG). When I started losing weight I actually thought that if I lost more than a couple of stone I'd look too skinny. I actually needed to lose ten stone. If someone had said 'you won't be a good weight until you lose 140lbs' that would not have helped me.
I'm happy that people (two years in a row) are looking to make lasting changes that result in consistent reduction in weight. Newton is the shining example, but we have several other re-visitors.
I personally will be targeting a green BMI at this point but lots and lots of people struggle to even understand that I'm carrying too much fat.....
