>2004 QP values - where will they go?

As someone who has been able to take advantage of the natural depreciation of big cars (The QP and my 2007 Range Rover Sport) I just wondered at what point the early cars will effectively bottom out on the depreciation stakes?

2004 cars are around £23,000 - £25,000 independants
2005 cars are around £25,000 - £30,000
2006 cars are around £35,000
2007/8 cars are around £45,000 - £50,000 main dealer
2009 cars around £65,000 main dealer
2011 car at main dealer £94,000 - delivery mileage

So, what will the 2004 cars fall to in the next three years do we think?

Just curious...

Marc...you could guage the way they go by looking at the QP IVs.......?

The older versions do look very dated and unappealing in so many ways.......anyone had on to compare?

Hi P

I do think the 2004 - QP harks back to the 60's QPs and so that hopefully their values will be more enduring ............... in their way they are arguably part of the retro design (minis, beetles etc) that has been popular over the past 10 years. No doubt some will disagree but if you look at the older QPs there are many design traits wwhich have been followed.....

Agree yes Marc...several iconic styling points are exclusively Maserati. But also the quality and overall design were poor in the 80s/90s......or am I being too harsh?

I quite agree Enzo, the only way is down invariably - but in time, probably alot of time, they could recover. I am thinking of ferrari 308's 328's etc etc If properly maintained and cared for.

There are some intersting cars that this applies to - the Bentley GT is another. 2004 was a good year and you have to wonder where the ground zero is for the Bentleys and the QP in the years to come. Or do they simply become old fashioned and outdated and therefore only worth the sum of their parts, which at the moment for the QP seems to be £4-6k for an engine; £1500 gearbox; etc etc etc

So many variables Marc.......but given the numbers produced, unlikely to really gain much in 10-15 yrs time...........plus when the petrol runs out in 50 yrs....no one will want one!!!!

Tough one...I would like to think that in time they would achieve classic status, and the values would recover, as you say...
but I think there will be a few too many to have added rarity value.
I think the shape is one that will look fresh for a long time, so that is very much in its favour :D

On the upside I'll be up for a Bentley GT in 3 years at £15,000 ..................... they are out there at the moment at £35,000 .......

The fleet would then be QP, RRS and Bentley

28 cylinders andd 14.4 litres .....

oooeerr lol

I think decent examples will drop to 15k and hover around that mark. Over time some will be scrapped/let go to ruin/crashed so the supply of good cars will dry up at which point the prices will slowly creep up. In my eyes the QP IV by comparison is from the pre Ferrari era, not very attractive and also just as expensive to maintain.

Looking at Autotrader there are now a few at 20k -23k, will be interesting to see how quickly they go. All in the Maserati is holding well, look at a 10yr old A8/S500/750i, all now bargain buckets.

Interesting thread this. I was only thinking about it today. I think privately there will be some with 50 miles at £20k in the coming months. They'll have to stay above £15k for a while yet as people would snap them up at that price. I think that they have little to fall if you buy a good one and look after it, just have to manage £140 to fill up the tank every week. It wouldn't lose more than £2500 in value over two years, 25000 miles. Actually think I might go for it if there was a nice one about. I hardly use the 4200 but a QP is fine for everyday if you can manage the 12mpg.

Enz...that has gone so far over Adams head.............;)......;)

P

Bet that foxed Adam Frank....

This is a hard one 2004 in 3 years....Think we will see a 15k QP but I would imagine it will not dip much below that.........Good 4200's are not really dropping much so would expect the QP will do the same maybe even a bit better...

14, if you drive steadily. I did get 21 on a tootle to Falmouth in mine. That's when it's an amazing car. Just a hassle to not kerb your 19" rims when reversing something resembling a limo in Cornish streets. It would be interesting to see what DMS could do with it and see if they could make the gear change better, especially when in Auto Mode.

I do think the QP will benefit from it's high, perhaps becoming iconic, reputation. It is a CAR amongst cars. Best in class and, in spite of some spirited competition, still the clear leader.

Yes the values will inevitably head south, but I'd think at a lower rate of incline, and with a greater degree of saleability.

I'll never tire of looking at a QP, sublime.

Me neither Miles...Just the best looking 4 door ever.....Is that to much...No, I actually think it could be the best looking 4 door ever built.....Advances on that.
