Anyone wanting a blast? maybe we should all meet just the other side of the Mont Blanc and take the strada to Genova via Alessandra from Aosta. It is without doubt the closest, least policed, smoothest, best cambered piece of tarmac I have found. I managed an average speed (garmin proved) of 160mph for over 20 mls on one stretch. Love to do it again in company one day.

That sounds a lovely idea ! (I know the road ;) )

Is it worth posting as a another thread to see who is up for it?

Tunnel £54 each way , 1200 mls of French autoroute to Mont Blanc and back at say 16mpg = £450 + £40 return for the tunnel plus the best bit + Etaps. Maybe in late Autumn so the traffic has relaxed plus a willing pathfinder to clear the route rozzerwise.

I can almost hear someone saying 'England is that way and it's a long walk' (quote)

I agree BB....No matter what we think whatever you read about the QP it always tells you that the QP autois the better car....From EVO to the motoring shows all have said the QP was crying out for the auto gearbox and as such this will keep the auto prices higher over time......If you read this months EVO mag they write a little piece on an early used QP...They say its a great car but the box is not good especially in auto mode. They say if you can offered to spend more hang on for an Auto.............Know people read and take note of statements like this especially when lots say the same...

Me I would have any as love them all...

The mags etc have the QP wrong. They WANT/EXPECT it to be a S500/745i clone with an Italian badge which its not. Its more 4 door Ferrari than German barge but still the journalists don't get it. The gearbox/engine is the same as that in the Gransport so I don't understand all the complaints. Who here would want a Gransport with a ZF gearbox? Thought not. The automatica was a lash up for the US market as US soccer mums couldn't figure out how a paddle shift works. BJL has covered all the other aspects very eloquently already.

Right...wheels and color are the trump cards. Guys...boys with money...mostly buy whatever if the sizzles there and the reflect in the store windows looks cool moving. Doesn't matter if its a '04...the key is the WOW appeal. Eye candy for some of us.

So true, if its in an ugly colour with dodgy looking trim it won't matter what gearbox it got.

Nailed it there Simon.......pity that a marque is led by the needs of the lowest common denominator....:(

I see your point but the GS is a totally different car the QP to be honest and no matter what way you cut it it's nearest competition back then was always top flight Mers...yuk.....and the like. Maserati have to sell cars to survive and if it means they had to put an Auto box in the car to sell more I can understand why they did this. Its a business at the end of the day.......As I said me I love both...but then I would say anyone on here is in the know and gets the QP................I would hope.

What I wouldn't dispute is that the automatica is a better daily drive/commuter.

Just checked the shipping cost...1050 pounds....my laptop doesn't have a "pound key"...plus my air fare and I will
have to take my wife, coach I hope...is another $3,000 round trip. The shipping was quoted one way so add another 1050 pounds to get home.
Hotel, lots of pasta and wine...$500 per day/7 days....and a reserve (in cash/euros) for traffic court and attorney fees - $5,000 at least if they nap me at 150 mph.
At this point the petrol sounds cheap...$4.10 gallon in my neck of the woods.

Nope...just send the video if you make the trek...I better stay home and save up for an oil change.

Sorry to hear it's too far Stoner but if you look on Google Earth going from Aosta SE on the A5 cut onto the A4 at Canavese and pickup the A26 going south past Allessandria to Genova you will see that even in June when the shots were taken there is nothing on it. Creamy curves with dilicious cambers all the way plus a few tunnels for the ultimate audio effect. Enjoy from afar.

As someone who has been able to take advantage of the natural depreciation of big cars (The QP and my 2007 Range Rover Sport) I just wondered at what point the early cars will effectively bottom out on the depreciation stakes?

2004 cars are around £23,000 - £25,000 independants
2005 cars are around £25,000 - £30,000
2006 cars are around £35,000
2007/8 cars are around £45,000 - £50,000 main dealer
2009 cars around £65,000 main dealer
2011 car at main dealer £94,000 - delivery mileage

So, what will the 2004 cars fall to in the next three years do we think?

Just curious...

Marc

Fuel prices plain and simple for anything with a V8 or bigger motor.... Everytime we see a short or longer term move upwards in fuel prices you see all the big 4x4 and exec cars get slammed in value... I think thats why the motor industry is in such a rush now to develop some real efficent cars... and sports cars have realised its not important to be able to go more than 200MPH There wil be more and more carbon fibre sports cars over time as manufacturing costs drop or the technology becomes more efficent. Weight is the killer in many ways to any vehicle...speed,handling,co2,braking.... We already have enough toys in cars,, many gadgets are just that, do we really need all of them, I doubt it..For example we have been parking cars and reversing them for decades but now we have to have parking sensors all round with pretty little dispalys because it makes it easier... but when we didn't have them did we really care and could we still drive it and park it...!!??? Most of us could...or we bought a smaller car.

May seem be a big factor, but one of the QP owners has had his car from new....not sure which year it is, done 30K miles .....lost 60K in depreciation.........the petrol spending was approx £11k @ 15mpg..........lets say he had bought a car that did 30mpg instead, in reality thats only an extra/difference £5.5K over 5 years..........is £1000 a year going to make that much difference.....NO!....small beer compared to the 60K depreciation!!!!!!

Agree Frank but at this moment in time customers are not flocking to buy engine cars and the main reason is fuel prce.......Thats not the ones who buy new as if you can spend 95k on a new QP GTS then fuel is not as big an issue...But there are buyers who spend 15k or 25k which will get them a nice Maserati, put off by 17 mpg at this moment in time...It was the same with my M5...9K for such a great car, but loads said they would love it but couldn't justify tthe fuel cost...........This wasn't such a big issue years gone by.
