2 days with the New Ghibli

Well guys I have been lucky enough to have the new Ghibli for the last two days and all I can say is wow.

I know I am going to be biased but it has proved to be far better than I anticipated.

The diesel is not the fastest out there but it does sound sweet! Like an old burbling V8 Hemi! There is more than enough power to spin the wheels and to pull you well out of the corners, coupled with the zf box it is lovely to drive too. Auto mode does everything you would expect, but press the manual and sport buttons and it a real drive. Although the box selection does take a bit to get use to. I am more accustomed to a BMW or Mercedes gearbox, but i have to say once i got use to it it is great.

Suspension is firm but not hard, and it handles well, this one is running 20" wheels. Not able to really push it to its limits due to the weather but there are no complaints from me on that. Having jumped from the Ghibli straight into a 5 series sport i can say i prefer the ride on the Ghibli.

The car is so comfortable and easily to adjust the seating position. Plenty of room for 4 of us that ventured out in it last night.

The head unit is simply to use with its touchscreen technology, sounds great, but have yet to try the voice command option.

The steering wheel controls take some getting use to, maybe just because it is something different, and controlling the central display has proved tricky, but again I do need to just sit and play with the controls. Not easy to learn a new toy whilst driving and is this weather.

Any complaints??!!!!
Having changed the digital dash display to MPH, it also converts the heater controls from C to F. I need to investigate this again to see if they can be changed independently.

And my only other complaint is I am weekend off and had to give the car back!!!!!

Saw a transporter full of them heading north near Reims this afternoon. Some lucky people going to be happy soon :)

As long as they have got the basic chassis sorted, the engines will improve over time. The new Diesel technology coming down the pipe really does look good and after an update or two, it will be a fantastic car.

Sounds like a winner then...I think the interior is one of the best I've seen in a 4 door for some time.........I know the diesel will be the real seller which is why it seems most dealers are getting them first but reall looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the petrol...

Good that it's on the road.

I guess the mph switching out of celsius is due to the preferences of the US market?

Whilst we are on, any idea when we will get the Levante and then the new GranTurismo/GS?

With the way the Ghibli launch was handed I cant guess.........2014/15 is the original date I have heard for the Levante
I believe the GT will be after that..........but dont hold me to these!

Thanks. Understand your concern. Amazed RHD Ghibli arrived before the mid-life facelift!

Look fwd to seeing the pics of that, it's the spec I had originally put down before I got slightly cold feet. Seeing pictures in the metal could turn me back on.

How was the steering, btw? I liked the new QP but found the steering a bit number than I was used to in the GranSport.

That sounds lovely. Look forward to seeing pictures. Can't believe the sense of frustration waiting to see one in the flesh as October was the original date IIRC? Excited ......

Hum, petrol S, now this is the one that interests me.

I am starting to beleive that Maserati have pulled off a bit of a master stroke with the Ghibli.

Sounds like it to me as well Matt...Will not really know until we start to see them on the road and in showrooms.....Sales will start when punters see them on the roads in the flesh....Which seems to be taking a little too long....
