Hum, petrol S, now this is the one that interests me.

I am starting to beleive that Maserati have pulled off a bit of a master stroke with the Ghibli.

The thing is, when you start to get really interested, ie. on the point of ordering one, you start to get a bit annoyed that there is some decent (mostly German) competition at about 10K less.

I think I preferred it when Masers were simply too expensive - they felt more exclusive and it was a proper heart over head purchase!

The standard Ghibli is more competitively priced. All it needs is a remap and it's a Ghibli S.

It annoys me that it's even necessary! I've chipped warrantied Maseratis before - it doesn't bother me too much but I'm sure I'm in a minority!

Understand the frustration. I remapped a 535d. Could hardly keep it on the road!

Andy, my petrol S is white with red leather, sunroof, skyhook, big wheels and lots of spec.......will look great when it arrives

I am really curious about order/interest levels in the diesel vs. petrol models that you are experiencing. For new, aspiring entrants to the brand I was curious to understand whether 'petrol' was part of the experience that people would be interested in buying into in addition to the styling, driving-feel and 'mystique' of owning a Maserati.

I've driven the new QP with the same Ghibli petrol powerplant. I can't imagine there is a huge difference between the two.

I found it a very nice drive, esp the gear changes, although it was very different to my previous coupes (as you would expect given the weight and other factors).

I couldn't buy a diesel Maserati. Diesels for me are about saving money, and in my head that doesn't equate with the Maserati marque.

To me, Diesels are all about the power delivery; waves of silky torque and unruffled progress. The spyder gives me all the theatre, drama and frantic progress I can use. Different horses for different courses. The economy of the Diesel is a nice bonus but I can still get into the mid 20s with my 335D.

Diesels have come a long way in the past few years, but you still have to pull up to a smelly diesel pump and put your gloves on..!!
