Brian, did you plug in and run a diagnostic? It's possible the EPB control module could be faulty, maybe have Aldous run a quick scan when you are there next?

I thought the whole point of a ctek was that it ‘exercises’ the battery. ie allows it to slightly drain before topping it up.
The CTEK doesn’t have the bits inside it to “exercise” the battery. It will switch off for periods but without a parasitic load from the car (not all of them have one) it ends up with a lot of very shallow cycles which degrade the battery. The temperature compensation is also carp, so if it charges when the temperature is high, that’ll do it in too.

In short, they aren’t actually all that “smart” and while a lot of folk use them without issues, every now and then they eat a battery. Discharging a battery below its minimum final voltage (about 1.7v per cell) will also degrade or kill it, so you pay your money and make your choices.

New battery fitted, went for a quick local blast. The ‘Park Off’ error message has disappeared. So far, so good.
Have ordered some timers for my trickle chargers. Thanks Matt.
Glad. I know the smart charger should protect it but in real world applications it trashes the battery when on 24/7. Then again not using the car and not exercising the battery will also trash it.

I’m all for driving them… that’s how I went from 15,000 to 115,000 miles in the 360 :)
Have equally piled ~ 15,000 miles on the GT in 3 1/2 years including lockdowns.
Both mine get plenty of exercise

Thanks Stuart. The ‘park off’ error message came back on Sunday, just as I reversed out of the garage, so I’m guessing it wasn’t the battery as I fitted a brand new one 2 days previously.
Stayed on for a 1 hour drive to Norfolk. Then on re-starting the car later that day, it had disappeared and did not show up on the 1 hour drive back home.
I will get Aldous to run a scan soonest before my next road trip abroad.

Sorry to hear that, but it's not always the battery - hopefully you'll get to the bottom of it soon

Just returned from a 2 hour drive to Harwich, no error message, engine off on arrival, auto EPB on.
Start car again, no error message, 1 hour drive home, no error message.
So the last 3 x one hour drives have been without ’park off’ messages - everything normal.
Really odd that it’s so intermittent and random. Will keep monitoring and plug in SD3 next time I’m at AV.

Although it’s only done it once since the new battery? Could be things have settled down (as much as they ever settle with Maserati electronics :) )

Thanks, that’s exactly what I was thinking. It appears that the 3 long journeys have ‘settled it’ somewhat.
At each start/stop, I have just allowed it to ‘do its thing’ with the auto EPB coming on/off.
For now I will just keep an eye on it.

Quick update. ’Park off’ has raised its ugly head again - but I have now narrowed it down somewhat:
It appears only when the car is started from cold, the second I press ‘R’ in order to reverse out of the garage, it comes up on the screen and stays.
If I then manoeuver the car round on the driveway and turn the engine off and back on again, it has disappeared and does not appear again using only forward gears.
Really odd how it’s connected somehow with Reverse gear and cold start.

I do hope you took the opportunity of lobster and chips at the Alma, Brian.

You may have to consider that you have a wheel bearing on its way out. If you go see Aldous get him to drive the car whilst connected to all 4 wheel speed sensors and confirm they are registering speed correct and one is not double or half the reading of the other three

Thanks Matt. Will give Aldous a call to see if he can fit me in before I take the car abroad end of April. Wouldn’t want to be stuck in France with a toasted wheel bearing!

TBF it’s just the sensor you can still drive it sensibly as the actual bearing part rarely fails.
