Last months gas and electric £867.00 !!!!
Crazy money, something has got to happen to these energy prices.
One benefit of mine is I’ve only got a tiny house and that still cost a fortune to heat but a fraction of your bill.

How do you use that much gas and electric? Have you got 4 sex ponds and a couple of saunas going 24/7?
No idea - house is spacious 5 bed, well insulated and double glazed, heating is mix of gas central heating and electric underfloor ( most of which is turned off with just the kitchen family area set at 16 degrees.

We are starting to look at solar

That's *baltic*

We've got 6 bedrooms, kind of, and stat at 21. Nothing like that much energy bill (maybe 2/3)

The 16 degrees is the floor temp the room temp is supported by the gas radiators.

We keep the house comfortable, bills used to be around £350 - £400 so have doubled.

But whatever way you look at it, it’s a lot of money

Wow that's some expenditure.
I know we're not spending anywhere near that with a combination of heating oil, wood and electric with the house at 20° currently no insulation or double glazing but will all be done this year along with a heat pump system.
Probably be more expensive next year.

Guys I found out this week that Octopus Energy have a Tracker tariff which follows the wholesale prices rather than the price cap - you have to be careful and monitor the wholesale price of course but as most know the wholesale price of gas & electric has been below the cap for a while.

Cap on gas is 10.3p unit rate while electricity is 34p, but over the past month wholesale gas has been running at 6.6p and electricity around 24p

So for anyone stuck on the cap this could be an option to see a saving on bills of effectively a third right now.

I was with Octopus already so was an easy 5 minute call to switch over onto their flexible tariff.

More details here…

Here’s a daily tracker on the wholesale price to keep an eye on it…I’m in the North West so just search your region to get your prices

Thanks for that. But, for me...

Tracker requires the submission of monthly meter readings, and may require the future installation of a smart meter.

More than happy to give them monthly readings. Smart meters are a bad solution looking for a problem IMHO

True @CatmanV2
I already had smart meters so no need to submit readings but I didn’t mind that before them either as used to have a monthly reminder in the calendar

Octopus send me an email every month. I guess I could just log off the tracker if they decide to try and make me have a smart meter

The flexible tariff has no exit fees either so when I asked they said they can switch you back to a capped tariff over the phone or online there and then

Feels like a No brainer while wholesale prices remain under the cap - granted not suited for everyone
