Just heared from a pal that he has ordered a new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera to replace his now three year old DB11. Takes delivery on March 1st, so will have the new reg number.

His DB11 cost him £120k originally (it was a few months old when he got it) and he’s been given £83k for it as part ex. I thought £37k depreciation over 3 years on a newish Aston was pretty good going. Oh, and he got 20% off the list price of his new DBS.

He used his DB11 as a daily car and it’s been faultlessly reliable. Way better, and less costly to run, than the Rapide he had before that, and the DB9 before that. So, a big thumbs up for anyone thinking if buying a second hand DB11.

The DBS will now be his new daily, as he is a one car guy.
The DBSS is a fantastic car except for the instruments, infotainment and switchgear which is pretty much identical to the new Vantage and DB11. It lets down what is an otherwise fabulous car. I reckon I could live with it, though. You know, if push came to shove

That grumble aside, I’m very pleased to see what a good deal he got. He’s faired better than any poor soul who paid cash for a new Vantage.

Do you think that reliability piece is because of the AMG engine Ewan. Good to hear and I always believe a car being used daily is much better for it. Good on him using the DBS that way.....Bet not many do.....

I bet most never paid list for the new Vantage.......I have heard some stories of 20k/30k off in some curcumstances. Add then the fact Aston dropped the new price last year and anyone paying list at the beginning will have lost a bit. At 80/90k for a used one it feels like a much better buy. I can't see them getting below 70k any day soon though. I know everytime I see one I really want one.......Seems to be lots liking the car that didn't at the beginning as they get used to the looks. Plus the new grill can be put on the first cars which a few dealers have already done on used stock. Conversions costs just under 3k I believe. Still not had that drive in one around Silverstone yet due to Covid but hope to get it in this year.

It's a great driver's car, Andy. I had one for a few weeks and it was fun, but I still prefer my V12VS. I had a poke around the new roadster (with less fugly new grill) at AM Cambridge before Christmas and was impressed. But I'd still rather keep mine. As the dealer price of mine and a similar-miles new-model Vantage would be about the same it's a relevant comparison.

I think the new roadster is pick of the range but it's a lot of pennies. You would be looking at 150k or more with some choice options and there are a lot of cars which would be better value for money....if you can call a 150k value for money. Looks lovely though. The old Vantage will always be the best looking car on the road for me but I think the new Vantage is a different type of car. I bet it's more everyday than weekend toy. Probably that engine changes the dynamics of the new to old.

Morning.

The hot staple/plastic welding worked, it’s a brilliant bit of kit albeit a bit messsy, smelly and not attractive on the eye.

I’ll be fitting it today to see if it snaps.

Morning all. Certainly warmer in the deep north today and I see temperatures of 15 degrees forecast for next weekend. Must get the mankind out ready. Good luck with the new job Catman. Mrs1963 starts hers on Monday so I’m back to house husbandry. Will you be pitching up in the Bentley?

Morning all. Miserable day down in Kent this morning. That horrible drizzle that means you constantly have the wipers on even though there's not much actual water hitting the windscreen.

Lots to do today so better crack on.
