Like you I'm a member of another car forum which has very limited activity. The majority of contributions are from people asking for, or, offering advice. We should be very grateful that we have an active forum (even with its foibles). The Sunbeam Tiger forum has little or no activity and has moved to Facebook.
Quality of someone who acts with reflection and moderationIs that a compliment for a frenchman?
I agree, the cross section of members, and knowledge not just car related, means you can find the answer to almost anything here. On the whole we can act as friends do with teasing and banter.Like you I'm a member of another car forum which has very limited activity. The variety of content from a cross section of owners and 'lurkers' keep this forum alive and long may it continue.
There are certain sections that I never read but I appreciate it keeps interest in the site, enabling it to survive beyond a question and answer session.

Jayne Mansfield’s daughter is in Law and Order.... and another as this has nearly dropped below the virtual page-fold.
So far I'm surprised no-one has mentioned law and order, sanitation, the aqueducts...
I just looked her up on the Internet and have concluded that I quite like the idea of her being lawless and disorderly.Jayne Mansfield’s daughter is in Law and Order.
How dare you. I'm not diverse and my opinions are not my own...ONE of the things I most value about the forum is the sense of a community with a valuable diversity of experiences and opinions.

I do have a lot of respect the for Matt/Mods for consulting again with members on this.
From my personal point of view, ONE of the things I most value about the forum is the sense of a community with a valuable diversity of experiences and opinions. To me the threads like politics, terrible jokes, energy crisis and rant threads (amongst many others) really enrich the experience of spending time here. These truly make it a community where you can learn something from outside of your own bubble.
IMHO, the elephant in the room is not the nature or subject matter, it is that posts exhibiting bad behaviour (i.e. where people get personal about members or launch ad-hominem attacks) appear to be rarely moderated or nipped in the bud. The bad behaviours then get reciprocated and eventually the whole thread gets frozen or deleted wholesale. When that happens, it makes me feel like I've been teated like a naughty kid in a school that practices collective punishment. I stopped posting after the last politically related thread got deleted wholesale.
I thank all those who have previously shown courage and called out such behaviour and who have reported such posts. At the end of the day it is the absolute right of Matt and Mods to manage this fine forum as they wish, but I don't just come here for tips on how to maintain my pride and joy.
Very interesting observations and one I echo.I’m a member of several car Marque forums, and all seem to end up with the political and rant type threads.
However, I find that the vitriol and personal abuse are far worse on most of them than on here, where in the main the content is friendly and light hearted.
The AMOC has gone into meltdown over a similar matter with the result being a stitched up AGM with a new management committee of old guard members who have a mistrust and dislike of social media wanting to overmoderate the forum and shut out such discussion.
As a result, many of the main contributors have set up an alternate forum outside the club, and the club one has become a far less interesting place with an absence of humour and debate. If I just want to know how to fix my sprocket on my lever it’s fine, but I can look that up on Google or YouTube.
