We have always said this is a forum for the members.

There have been many discussions and disagreements over the years, but in these trying times its become clear that at times the political / complaining content is potentially offensive and drowning out the original purpose of the forum which is to create a community of members adding to their ownership experience with the Maserati brand.

To understand this better, we want to ask questions of the members to understand if they feel this type of content is of interest to them or if they would prefer the forum to stick more closely to its stated mission.

There are three sets of statements, around political views, political satire and "rants". There are three choices, you can say you like it, are not bothered by it or do not like it and consider this to be the wrong platform for them. You can choose three statements, but to make this worthwhile, choose one from each set of three. We have chosen not to separate the content and the conflict, as experience has told us that you can't have one without the other and this is almost always in the off topic threads.

All answers are confidential and we are interested in the views of everyone from regular posters to those who just read but don't post.

We want the forum to be a vibrant, positive and enjoyable experience for everyone, so please vote to make sure we can shape the forum to your vision.

Comments on this thread are welcome, but will not be considered when looking at the results of the poll. It will run for 7 days after which, providing a significant proportion of the 130+ weekly contributors vote, we will use it to make any changes deemed nessesary.

In addition, those that lurk we encourage you to contribute which will better help us understand your hesitance to be involved, which, as the forum is all about growth and new members will be gratefully appreciated

Looking at the poll. Most of my responses would fit into the I am not bothered and choose to ignore it and the conflict. And not get involved in tit4tat. I do enjoy reading others opinions and thoughts though, as there are some very knowledgeable people on here. However, the conflict it causes can be damaging and I would rather see the yellow and red card and comments removed rather than banning threads unless they are clearly posted for one reason.

Yeah, the problem is that we don't seem to be able to separate the useful perspectives and the angry responses, which seem to just get repeated ad infinitum. This is really about measuring the tolerance for it. I think the overall result will be interesting and helpful, so won't draw any conclusions in the interim.

Personally I feel we don’t need to discuss it as yet and let members vote without pressure then at the end further comments can be discussed.

This.
I really enjoy reading the opinions and advice of our very varied community. It's pretty much the only forum I read, so to not have this, would be a loss to me. I don't like conflict, but just choose to scroll past those replies.
At the end of the day, that's what the 'Other topics' section is for isn't it? Maybe separate that section in two. Other topics and humour so you can just go there for a laugh and not get tempted to click on something more political.

If you only want car based content, don't read the threads in the other sections.

People are always going to have opinions. I fear if you remove the sections where people can voice these, it'll just end up appearing in the car based threads anyway, and ruining those.

I, ideally would have a different tick box on the survey = " I enjoy reading the political views and choose to ignore the conflict "

While this is the start, it might not be the end, so chose from each set of three which most closely reflect your view and we may need to dig into particular areas afterwards.

As Matt says, let’s allow it to run and see what we have at the end.

Good luck to @conaero finding sponsors for a politics sub-forum. ;-)

There’s too much politics now with the internet and social media, people have made it their hobby to talk politics all their awakening day. Everyone thinks they know what’s wrong but no one knows the answer.
Politics in a very light hearted way is a laugh imho but too serious and it just bores me sugarless.

Aren’t we supposed to be answering the survey and not spouting opinions?

You can learn a lot from the responses on threads, but not sure what you can get out of the forum system. Especially if you’re able to categorise the threads. Like:

average number of views/users viewing per post per thread (/per category)
average number of likes and number of users liking per post per thread (/per category)
average number of replies and number of users per post per thread (/per category)
number of ignores per thread

etc. I could probably come up with some more but it all depends on the stats you can pull from the system. At the end of the day it’s all about engagement and views (and number of users engaging/viewing.

That tells you some things, but it’s not a full picture, for example, who doesn’t enjoy it and puts them off posting, who limits their time here because of it, if they don’t care about it because they just ignore it. Which is why we are asking. As said above, let’s see what the results are.

Isn’t putting ‘conflict it creates’ a little confrontational? Disagreements are one thing. Conflict is a bit more excessive. I can’t recall any thread resulting in a conflict.
