I searched a couple of the years and had an idea what it might be, but then the last year in the sequence would have been 2010, surely?

Now here is where we may get some debate, when this was achieved as opposed to other events that might relate to the same

Likewise, I searched too and would concur with your conclusion. If we are thinking the same a good friend has "jumped" many of these.

There we go a winner, worlds tallest free standing building.

Now Burj Khalifa was opened in 2010 but it was recognised as the tallest in either 2007 or 2008 depending on the resources you check.
