IWC...now there's a nice watch maker...
I have the Portugese Rattrapante miles...3712-003, rose gold, brown leather strap...

I am wearing my Heuer Autavia at the moment, original from the 70s...
Took it out of its garage to wear it for Le mans classic and kind of missed it so will wear it for while...

I bought a tag carrera in Al kobar to cheer myself up on christmas day last year. it also cost me a ladies omega to cheer her up as well. ( well thats not entirely true , I bought hers to stop her moaning & to take the constant
" thats not fair " look off her face.)

You know it makes sense....heheheheh

Hi Adam

It all depends on your long term view. Is this to be "the" watch that you will wear for 50 years, a dress watch for special occasions, part of a collection of watches?? Depending on your answer the answer to your question may differ.

I think it is a very nice watch but some may say it is a young man's watch and the red face and bezel may be dated in say 10/20 years time? For the money you could get a classic 40s/50s Rolex, Movado etc that will never date, or go down in value, but then you may not want to wear that every day.

Would a classy Maserati driver wear a red faced watch? Will it clash with your yellow Maser when you get it!? What do forum members think - is it understated enough? Perhaps it is spot on for a young man? (bear in mind I am not remotely on trend so my advice is of limited value on all this modern stuff).

So in answer to your question is a question - is it the sole watch you will have and how long are you planning to keep it?

Cheers

Some very good points nfm,
Regards,
Enzo.

Intersting that so many people that are into cars are also into watches...
maybe it is the mechanical aspect...don't know,
but I have been into watches for almost as long as I have been into cars...
started collecting them a few years back, firstly pocket watches and then wrist ones.
Regards,
Enzo.

Yes, I love them and with unlimited funds would have a lot more. The older watches do have a downside in that they need repaired from time to time. My Dad got a Rolex Oyster Royal for his 16th birthday (in 1943) which I have worn daily for 20+ years but it now needs a total overhaul.

This is why I responded to Adam as I did as part of the chosing is deciding whether it is a fashionable short term item or something that one day you may leave to your son. Ideally you could achieve both in one purchase but timelessness for new products is not always easy to predict at the time, if you know what I mean!

Cheers

Well i am thinking of either a red or white face, i think the latter is the safer and more appealing option, i would wear it everyday, I dont like Rolex at all, just never done it for me, Red may clash with a Yellow GS but i would be tempted with a Red GS and silver wheels. I am unsure on how long i would like to keep it, it depends if it dates, but dont forget it is only about £750 which is excellent value for a quality watch from a quality watchmaker. This is one of my favourite watches, the price is steep though but the quality, superb.

I like the strap colour too.

I bought myself a Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary edition in 2003 when they were first released as a limited run. It wasn't intended to be an everyday watch, but since I bought it I haven't worn any of my others:

To be fair, this is the only Rolex i would consider buying, i saw it in a Jewellers the other day and thought it looked superb and really stood out for the right reasons. Very nice timepiece indeed.

Adam, TAG's are great starter watches, so I support your choice.

You have good taste my friend...look forward to seeing your "first maser" post in a couple years...

Love your Monaco JP, although i would go for the blue one, never the less, still a very nice ticker,

A right character is one of the things I have been called...hehehe
I really love Italy, there are so many beutiful places, all over...and have lived in Sicily for a year or so...
but, I really like living in the UK, it's where my immediate family is and that's the most important thing to me.
Regards,
Enzo.

If your family are living here then i dont blame you.

I was going to buy an Omega Seamaster with the blue dial, but then spotted the Rolex and was instantly besotted with it. I never really liked the vulgarity of a lot of Rolexes and had never especially wanted one, but seeing the green bezel of this watch initially attracted me as it was so different. When I then discovered it was a special edition (although they have since produced more) that sealed the deal. I spent almost 3 times the original Omega price but have been delighted with it so far. A friend of mine recently bought a Rolex Milgauss anniversary with the green sapphire crystal and I love it. It could well be the next watch purchase for me. Must be something about the green!

Also Enzo, can you put some pics of your watches on, would like to see them if that is O.K?

Sure, no problem...will do it when I get back at the weekend...

W'ont, put too many up, as that will bore the pants off many people, but will throw in a surprise or two!!

Regards,

Enzo.

Same with me, l really like the green on it, i have seen the same style with a Blue Bezel with Gold numerals which i am not a fan of then also with a Orange bezel and silver numerals which again i dont like, the green just seems different and makes you look twice and think, that is different and looks real quality.
