Newbie looking at Gransport - anyone know anything about this car?

All valid points guys - I think I've started a major debate here....

Firstly, as I mentioned before, I'm not too phased by depreciation - I expect to lose some money on whichever car I buy and if I lost £4-5k on the grey one over 2 years it wouldn't kill me. If depreciation was such an important factor I'd buy the 911, as the one I have been looking at is £2k underpriced and I am confident I could sell in 2 years time and probably lose no more than a grand.

Secondly, I doubt I'll put more than 5k miles a year on the car. So in 2 years time it should still haver lower mileage than the silver car has today. I'd like to think that I won't wan to need to sell in 2 years time, as for me stepping up from this would mean an F430, which I doubt I'll be able to afford in 2 years time without taking out some major finance, but I guess you never know...

I agree your comment Andy about buying cars like this with the heart - OK it's probably best not to, but that's exactly why I put in the offer on the grey car within 6 hours after seeing it. It got me excited in a way that the silver car didn't quite manage (no rude comments please chaps!!). My heart was saying 'buy it' and my head was saying 'get an inspection first' but my heart won unfortunately.

I take it form your last sentance you have taken the plunge...Well done Simon...I think it looks a cracking car. Look forward to mabe seeing in the near future.....Enjoy.

Andy, I offered £21k but it was rejected. Am currently trying to work out if I can afford to up my offer to a level that will be accepted.

£21k would've left me with enough spare to replace the front pads and discs within the next few months. £22k would mean id have to live with them for a while.

I'm starting to wonder whether the silver car is the better bet for me as I'd have £3k spare for any maintenance issues that might crop up. It just doesn't float my boat as much as the grey one did - the full cream leather makes a big difference.

What is he looking at for the car....I don't think he will drop more than £500 of the price..Nowing Simon as I do........It does look loads better than the silver one you are right.

There's also the blue car at £19k, but just not sure I could live with that interior...

As a good analogy as to the difference between the cars I've so far seem, when we looked at the silver car my wife wasn't that keen - when I said that it was practically a supercar she didn't believe me. When we saw the grey one she realised what I meant and thought it looked every bit the car I'd described...

How about trying him at £22K, but he puts on new discs and pads, get's it serviced and does the clutch if the reading is 60%, or more and get's the indie inspection done..!! He will know that you are interested but not wide eyed enough to be caught out, he might just accept £21K for it then..!!

He said that even at £22k he'd be spending £1k on taxing and servicing it - he doesn't feel the brakes need doing (they do) and won't drop on the price for that. I think he feels that the advertised price reflects the age and condition.

Where in West Yorks are you hodroyd? I moved down to Wales from Huddersfield 3 years ago..

Simon,
I'm in the triangle of Barnsley, Wakefield, Doncaster, nice rural area..!! He needs telling it's irrelevant what he feels needs doing, the brakes are not good and that is a NO-NO on a Supercar..!! That's why you need to get an Indie Inspection done, foe a few hundred quid it could save you a lot of grief and he can't argue with their technical opinion, as he has no idea what has been done to the car..!!
Cheers

I think an inspection report wouldn't make him move on price. I think he's confident that he'll get the asking price eventually.

Perhaps not, but at least you will know if it is worth it, or will eat up your £3k in the first 3 mths!

Simon,
We have all been exactly where you are now, don't weaken..!! You have the money and he wants it, how long has this car been for sale..?? Tell him what you want and how much you will give, hand him your phone number and walk away, I know it's hard and you really want to thrust all your hard earned in to his little mits, but resist, just for a while..!! If he will pay for an Indie inspection and you are given the results directly from the Indie, you will know the condition of the car, if he shy's away from an indie inspection, then there is doubt of some kind and be very careful..!!

Go for the grey one, it is definitely worth the extra money.

Remember road tax is £480 for post march 06 cars and £240 for anything before.

I'm surprised he's prepared to hang on for so long but says that there's another guy coming to view the car on the weekend and would rather wait to see what he offers. That could be a ruse but equally do I want to let the car go for the sake of £1k. Compared to the other 06/07 plate cars around at the moment it is at a good price. It's the age old dilemma!

I'm around 20 miles north of Cardiff.

It's in the higher tax bracket.

Did you say you'd made an offer on this car previously?
