Any idea, or any markings on the actuator to give us an idea who actually makes the Maser unit..?? I had an idea it could be Magnetti Mareli..??

Off to collect first thing tomorrow, just had the bill through, feck this car is expensive to run !!!

Hey you cannot say it was expensive and then not tell us how much the Armed Robbery was for! Must be a forum rule somewhere!:) Anyway I would like to know just so I can figure how much I'm saving/losing in all of this. I still haven't gotten the Pots in again, but nevertheless, I honestly do not think this is going to fix it. If it doesn't, I'm not going to hesitate on the new furniture for the living room.....I'm getting the entire transmission. Again I am glad you have your car back on the road.

Craig you have a PM.

The Spyder is back and despite my wallet being somewhat lighter I am amazed how much better it is. It changes gear faster and smoother than it ever has before so maybe the signs of wear were there before. A wonderful trip back from Poole I had forgotten how great a car this is, another reason to smile.

Okay guys I finally got the other Pots in and hauled the car back to Aston Martin to get it into self learn. The long and short of it is the Pots did not fix the problem so now I am moving on to the actuator itself. I just wanted to make sure I posted this update.

Okay guys I wanted to post an update. So after two sets of Potentioments, couple of trips to the Aston Martin dealer for a self learn and the fact Zagatoes fixed his identical issue with a new actuator I decided to put another Actuator in........so let me post what I've done.

First I did find a used Actuator with low miles for about $1000. Next.....well here's some photos.....

If you take the bleeder valve off of the gear box, and move the rear drive axle over you can drop the Actuator down (above). It doesn't require you to remove the gear box, I'm sure many people have been charged for this type of labor anyway, just thought I would post that it doesn't need to be done.

(Below) The new one installed, in this photo you can see the bleeder valve I was referencing above that must be taken off to get the actuator off:

Now to bleed each individual line out I slightly loosened each one of the banjo bolts and just let the hydraulic fluid drain out. I kept topping of the F1 Res. I have in the trunk so I could see just how empty it was. This all sounds great but I have a slight issue. It worked for Zagatoes but another Actuator did nothing for me. I am posting a link below of what the car is doing. I can put the car in Reverse and it will drive fine. As soon as I try any of the upwards gears 1-2 etc. it stays in neutral, you can hear it try to do something as well but well....here take a look. Additionally note, no lights on the dash either ("CC"):

I confess I couldn't really hear much other than the paddle being hit. That is very odd. Is it possible to run the actuator off the box? Has it been through the learning process?

Had that issue once looking for the cause of NOT wanting to select 5th gear.
The system bleeds itself during action, but THERE is the culprit!
With the car standing, only two gears could be selected.
There are two srews at the back of the actuator though, intended to bleed fast via internal ports.
Just prime the pump and open these screws; you will hear preasure releaf inside the actuator.
My GS only could select first gear or reverse, anything else was not possible with the car standing.
Therefore i made a switchboard with six switches and made connections at the multiconnector and the positive pole of the battery.
I could prime the pump and activate all of the solenoids that way.
In that condition, i was able to establish if the actuator could find all gear positions.
For some gears i had to activate two solenoids at the same time, kind of a puzzle, but at the end it was clear that the solenoids and the actuator where ok.

Did you disconnect the oli line to the clutch during the proces?
There is a traditional bleeding nut at clutchside.
If there is too much air in that line, the clutch will not be engaged completely, causing problems of course.

I haven't taken it over to the Aston Martin dealer yet for a self learn. I called him on the phone and spoke to him. What he didn't understand is why it would choose reverse and no other gear. No forward gear whatsoever. I guess the problem is we came back full circle to what the car was doing to begin with and no "CC" light at all. It's definitely pressurizing correctly. I've had two suggestions, one was a shift fork, the other was something similar with an Internal gearbox problem, and that was what the Aston Martin dealer stated on the phone this morning. I don't know would a self learn fix it, maybe but I'm doubting that just because what I've already been through with it.
