Hi

Yesterday my clutch in the gs was collapse.
The clutch wear out is 15 percent and it only done 20000km since its new. This is my second time got this problem. My first clutch was collapse as well. Both of them are genuine maserati clutch.
Is there any other option clutch for gs? Like heavy duty pressure plate?

Sorry to hear that mate sounds painful but also expensive too. Hope you can get an aftermarket one which is up to the job but sounds more like there is something else causing them to lunch.

Was the release bearing replaced with the last or prior clutch change?

What is your driving style?

Do you drive in auto or would you say you hammer the car in sport or drive it quite normally?

I have had one go too in a GS, at similar mileage very annoying

Finger followers collapsed on my last clutch after about 15k of use, i had done about 6k of them and my driving was generally pretty hard in sport mode, previous owner also only used the car in sport mode

sometimes i really hammer the car. my PIS was 4.5 from my memory.
but most of the time i just drive it easy, in the normal mode and i shift the gear around 3000rpm.
is it any aftermarket clutch? maybe like heavy duty pressure plate upgrade?

Main reason for failures in recent times, clutch don't seem to get worn out per se........

Firstly let me start off by offering sincere thanks and appreciation to member GETRDY and the team from ART in melb. for doing the research and applying their findings to GETRDY's GS in a live environment.

As most of you are aware, one of the weakest points with the 4200 series is the clutch assembly. Apart from wear on the clutch plate itself (to a degree can be managed by driving style), the pressure plate fingers have a tendency to collapse randomly - sometimes within short period after pp replacement.

A suitable solution appears now to be at hand and to my knowledge undiscovered in any of the Masa forums.

Thru connections/input from one of the local independents and active Ferrari racing team, ít has been verified that the pressure plate from the road Ferrari 430 & F430gt3 (both identical part #'s) is a perfect bolt on fit for the GS and presumably 4200 series coupes/spyders.

Effectively this means we have available a far more robust alternative to the OEM offering. (I have suspected that at least with the MCV's this area was beefed up and perhaps this is how)

GETRDY has been driving with the upgrade pp for some 500km -(yes I know early days) and reports no issues and a marginal better/smoother gear change particularly in the low gears.

For mine this is great news and one we should be ware of

txs for taking the time and implementing, I'm sure the forum will be keen to hear more in due course

(Will post any pics when available)

Is there anything in particular that can make the fingers go? Hard driving? Auto mode? Sport vs Normal? Or is this just something that can happen irrespective.....

Nothing that suggests its driver induced or choice of driving mode - appears to be metal fatigue

Search forum as i have posted pic. on what the PP looks like after the failure

Has there ever been a manual clutch fingers failure? If so then that would rule out any of the cc kit having an influence.

This is fantastic news Adam ill do some investigation this end too. After this years Le Mans, we were about to approach an engineering firm to refurb and upgrade the clutch cover.

We can already get the plate re lined and all the springs replaced for £29 plus VAT.

I have just posted up on FerrariChat asking what the failures are on the F430 clutch, if they do the same, then there is no point.

Maserati CC Clutch: 196335 £709 plus VAT
Ferrari F1 Clutch: 222090 £995 plus VAT

The Ferrari one below simply looks the same part in an obscure plain box:

Nice Adam, the tangs are clearly different.

Its only sprung steel riveted in.

Next question, can you get the F430 clutch via an alternate route or is it still main dealer only part?

Marios told me that the early 4200 cars had the same clutch in, probably explains why Andys has lasted 50k miles / 12 years in my old Spyder, which was an early 02 CC car.
