The Last Post - boot release fix

Found another way to access the boot when the battery is dead..............noticed my battery was getting weak, bought a new one and gave it a full charge. A few days later, tried the boot release button, absolutely nothing left in the battery. That's OK, I'll use the key to operate the manual...

Considering selling my lovely motor. MoT until October 2015, 58k miles full service history (including clutch at 39k), manual gearbox, heated seats etc etc. More likely to make contact with an enthusiast or serious buyer here. I'm away until January but if anyone is interested I could meet up...

    New unwanted noise

Car is a 4200 manual. Had a run to Germany last week. Cruising at 80-100mph (not in the UK !) there was a very smooth transmission hum. Quite normal. Gradually, (over a 1000 miles or so) at about 40-60 mph I became aware of a droning and slight increase in vibration. I monitored the tone...

    Unrelated problems.....?

I have a 4200 with a manual gearbox.......during yesterdays drive the mirrors stopped adjusting to the "reversing" position, although there was the usual "beep" in the car when reverse was selected. There is power to the mirrors, as they fold when selected but the mirror (left and right) do not...

    Changing the oil pressure sensor

Watched my oil pressure gauge "stick" on 5 bars at hot idle and fall to 2.5 bars with the engine off (!) for too long. Either that or it goes to 2.5 bars before I start up or on a good day indicate more realistic pressures and function normally. I intend to change the sensor, do a "how to"...

    Good news

The ignition key fob took a swim at 30c in non bio and a spin at 1200 revs when the domestic in chief decided to wash my trousers without checking the pockets. Took it apart, wiped out the residue, sprayed it with degreaser, and baked it for ten minutes at 50c in the oven. Astonishingly it...

    Oil pressure sensor

Anyone identified an equivalent oil pressure sensor for a 4200 ? Mine is chucking out some spurious signals at start up but is ok after that. Could be connection/sticking/failing.......are there any voltage output tests that can be conducted ?

this one is not so messy

I loath December in the UK with all it's christmas ****, so for nearly 40 years it's been …..get out of the country during December . This particular year I ganged up with several others and muggins here, hired a Land Rover to venture into the Masai national park in Kenya over christmas...

    A messy one this.....

On the last night in Australia (early 80's) we went to the Kings Cross area for a few farewell beers. One of the group was a bit of a drinker – his dad was a Glaswegian headbutter when he'd had a few and he'd inherited some of his genes. He was getting all stroppy and saying that we should...

    Sulphur fumes

Gunung Sibayak is a Sumatran active volcano. Ganging up with 2 others we made our way to the top. One, I'll call Jonah, a Japanese American had an abundance of misfortune. As we reached the top, we were impressed by the bubbling steaming yellow green crater lake, the heat, the grumbling earth...

    last one for tonight

Onto Australia (truly the culture rectum of the world) I can't begin to tell you the rubbish experienced but one incident is outstanding. I've hired a campervan with 2 mates we take a cruise up the coast to Queensland. One evening we take a meal in a restaurant and I foolishly leave my...

    and another

While there is considerably arrogance and “class†snobbery in our culture, in India, it is huge. On a return flight from there I took my seat next to the aisle. Boarding from the front and rear doors led to a lot of seat finding confusion by the locals. From my left was an extremely rotund...

    Another one

While I was in the Philippines, a bomb planted on his plane murdered the president of Pakistan. Returning to the UK on Pakistan International Airways via Karachi shortly afterwards didn't carry any concerns, even had time between flights to nip into the city and buy a pair of “Sinbad†curly...

    I'm a wassuck

Last year on the way back from Italy on the bikes we stopped for an overnight in Germany. The hotel was new, very posh and had 3 pools. A hot spa, a swirl and a regular with lanes. Louise was gagging for a dip, so while I unloaded the bikes she went for a splash. I intended to bimble down...

    Auspuf

At the early stage of a relationship with a girlfriend I took her as pillion to Belgium. In the square at Hondschoote we had coffee and cake. Now, etiquette may dictate that it's not good to guff so early in a friendship. But she did admit to this later in our relationship. I went in to pay...

    A night to remember

Once upon a time, this grumpy bloke – who thought that he never wanted a wife met this tall blond who he found was bit of a spirited handful ! Then, after 12 years of living together and shortly after his 60th birthday he changed his mind and over the 2 way radio's, which they used on their...

    Really must stop now

I made my way to the end of the road to where it joined the Curaray river somewhere in central Ecuador with the idea of getting someone to take me into the jungle for a week or so. By chance there was an American girl, 2 Austrian girls and a Swiss bloke all wanting to do the same. We ganged up...
