It's at the back of the car mate, if the boxes were white hot the bumper would melt..??

Have a go at holding your GS tailpipes after a good, hard, cross country thrash and see if you reappraise your opinion. :)

I know they get hot, but there's hot and searing, two different things, like the speed of a GS compared to a 4200 Spyder, you know what I mean..??

The only difference in top speed was directly, and wholly, down to the handbrake in my passenger seat!

I would just leave the box out the wadding wont make any difference and the box will likely resonate so best remove it. To reduce noise you need to diffuse the acousitc energy in the pipe which requires is to expand into the volume of the silencer slowing it down and pass over a lot of uneven shaped material the wadding which scatters the acoustic energy. So with the pipe inside all you will do is cause corrosion and keep 6 inches of pipe warm.
does anyone know where i can buy a load of exhaust wadding for my pending box gutting ?

Corrosion shouldn't be a problem as I am is using st/steel pipe, I will be packing the original wadding back, it may not make any difference but it won't do any harm either and I'd rather have it in there than not, weld them up then wish I had put it in there. Like others have stated, I would prefer to remove the box completely but I just don't have a ramp, or the time, to mess around under the car fabricating hanging brackets etc. At the end of the day if they sound **** I'll just put the others back on.

Exactly why I will be doing it. They will still look standard, and I can't be bothered to mess about with new hangars. Also, it will only cost about £50 to do, and it's a bit of fun to boot. ;p

On Wednesday when my spare rear boxes arrive. Can you put up a video of yours when done? With them at tick over and when revved. It will be interesting to see how different ours sound. Have you got an x pipe on your car?

Will be interesting to see/hear the results of this mod. I fear it's going to be very boomy as the boxes remain for the secondary cats and rear pipes. Should be a decent noise out the back, though!!
