Window lift mechanism

I knew it wasnt going to be great but after following this link to get the door interior & lift mechanism out (gransport)
https://craig-waterman.com/maserati-4200gransport-window-micro-switch-and-regulator-fix/
(thanks craig)

The arm is twisted & split & the cog is stripped

I heated it up & pulled the arm apart and straightened it out best I could, but without seeing a good one it might be too tricky to weld up as it all has to line up pretty accurately.

So questions are -

Is it worth me trying to weld up (im really not great) and buying a cog from www.blythbrosdesign.com ?
Or is there someone here/known that can fettle it?
Or just dig deep for a £650 replacement?

Any info/advice appreciated - this forum is proving invaluable with my latest car ownership!

Do you know what caused it to 'jam up', and damage the arm? That certainly needs to be addressed.

Personally, I would repair that one - but that's the way I am...;)

I thought it was 'monkey metal' and didn't repair well. Sure I have read that in the past.

I...errr...don't know about welding that. The optimism and skills of @happydaze notwithstanding, there's little tolerance in that door cavity...and that break looks torsional...

I’d probably be going for one of these and moving the quadrant. Although apparently you can buy new ones too.
Feel free to toss a link to those...! Found new right ones, but am looking for a new left so that I can pattern here without pulling it from the Coupe, as the Spyder is in need of repairs to both...

I think - (a lot of hoping) that it broke due to wear of the cog then caught hard - This seems to be a ‘unit’ & cant see anything else affecting it & it was all solid… but what do i know

Funny, someone popped by today & said ‘thats monkey metal’ - never heard before. Ive been making kitchen knives & penknives & from that experience I’d say it was pretty poor.

I can try & weld & straighten no problem but might go chasing my tail importing a little cog from USA if i dont get my monkey metal all lined up

But £650… not even fitted?

You aren’t the first or the last to be outraged at the price. That’s why most go for the GTV part I posted and move the quadrant.

Gotta be philosophical here; outrage does one no good with parts pricing for these cars. The availability, however...o_O

I think adding a different part & making it fit is a bit beyond me - I downed tools today as I didn’t know where the re attached ratchet arm should line up on the original so a foreign part makes me want to hide

However, found this chap doing a great job

I can just weld the small spindle in so that Just leaves the one issue of bending the monkey metal to where it should be

So I’m inspired to just give it a go tomorrow… what could possibly go wrong….

Sure, why not?

And then, later...once the tears dry...:p

But the little cog thing not so well..

Didnt check & thought it was the same metal… melted some aluminium.. balls

Anyone know if this bit available anywhere?

Cheap and nasty looking piece for an expensive car, Maserati don’t do themselves any favours

Poor engineering, couldve been lots better for not much more thinking.

I think they spent the money on the engine, handling & lunches

Your right, every car I’ve had that cost a fraction of the Maserati have had no trouble with the electric windows.

I think what actually happened was, there was a bin of overproduced Alfa stock laying around and the beancounters offered a bonus to any engineer who could figure out what to do with them.

If you use the aftermarket Alfa part that has the full half crown (quadrant) there's no need to move it;)
Post in thread 'Alternative parts, what everyone needs to know...'

Hi, thanks, I did see your link before but thought I’d try & fix but using a previously broken bit, that may not be sound & along with old micro switch might not warrant the investment of a £100 little cog from USA so I think I will go down the same route as you.
Found it here. https://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=Product&ProdID=21554

Presumably I can select any model? or should it be say the GTV 3.2?
Thanks
