Will Larini sports cats cause a CEL?

Hi all,

Today I have just found out that Larini sports cats may require alteration to the ECU (eg. software update, reflash, FD ECM), after speaking with Maranello Motorsport Richmond. For those of you with full Larini systems (or replaced front pipes) could you please let me know if this is the case? Apparently, the proposed exhaust modifications may also affect emissions. Does anyone in Melbourne have any experience or knowledge regarding these matters? Answers would be greatly appreciated.

With thanks,
Felix

Yep

Replaced secondary cats with Larini sports cats, replaced centre resonator with Larini X pipe

No CEL and no mods required and no ECU tinkering

Hi Felix,
All the info I've ever read says it's all clear for any adjustments you want, once you get past the last oxygen sensors.
In any case talk to Raymund Ong at AutoRacingTechnik in Heidelberg West on 03 9459 0880. He's a member of the Australian Maserati Forum and makes custom exhausts. He fitted Larini rear boxes to a Canberra mate's Spyder. He can even retune the factory ECU. He'll know for sure.

Thanks you. However, as the car is a Euro spec, it will only have two cats remaining in the entire system, so I am still unsure as to wether it will still be emissions legal with two 200 cell cats. I would also like to stay well away from retuning the standard ECU as it is not reversible.

Kind regards,
Felix

Felix I have removed the secondary cats on both my GranSports (Eurospec) and not had issues. The secondary cats are simply not needed, have the Larinis with the free flow silencer instead of the cats or straight through if you like it LOUD!

It has the catless Euro manifolds, so I am wondering if it will still be emissions legal with just the two Larini 200 cell sports cats (in Melbourne). Conaero, how many cats are remaining in your system?

Kind regards,
Felix

I've got Larini sports cats (2x200 cell) on my Spyder and I have no issues whatsoever getting through our MOT. It's absolutely fine. Also, as far as I am aware, there is no ECU tinkering required either. Plug and play mate, so fit them and have fun!

I changed my manifolds last year to Euro-spec (non-cat) and fitted Larini sports cats in place of the secondaries. Absolutely no issues for running, emissions, CEL etc.

No issues at all for me too running since last year my Euro spec Larini with x-pipe and back boxes! Sound from another planet voted as the best around Lambos and Ferraris lately at a track day
