Wierd AC Problem

Hello friends,

Moby from Houstom TX here, 2002 Coupe CC. My AC vents started blowing reg air on driver side and cool air on pass side. Coming from previous experiences with Mercedes cars, I fiured Freon was low. I topped it up but situation remains. Last week, I removed all gas, vacuumed the lines, and refilled with freon to factory spec (as in owners manual) but same situation - Pass side vents blow cold air but driver side just blowing regular.

Am I missing something here? Is there a regulator that distributes cold air? What else to check. I am kind of dumbfounded after doing the whole vacuum/refill exercise. Please help.

Cheers,

Moby

are you should the drivers side is not just a little bit warmer than passenger side. I know my 2001 3200GTA the passenger side is always slightly cooler than the drivers side? i have also minced about with the freon and AC system to no avail. There are flaps, but they are way deep in the unit and you can't see what they are doing!

****! I am getting to the point where I wanna take it to the dealer and ask them to diagnose it for me. I will still fix it myself. I took apart top of dash earlier this year to have it restretched so I am not afraid to take it apart.

The drivers side is barely cool air (like outside air) while the pass side is cold as in airconditioned air - so the difference is substantial.

In Houston Heat, its getting very hard to drive the maser durting day - I need to egt this fixed ASAP.

Please continue to help! Has anyone actually resolved this yet?

Do you get an E sign where the outside air temp should be? If so, it's likely to be one of the two servo actuator motors that hide under the dash, if not, it could be that the flap linkage has broken allowing independent operation of the two side vents. Either way it's a pig of a job. Centre consol out, dash top off, clocks out, dash front out then a lot of scratching about to either get at the actuators or find the break in the linkage. If it is one of the actuators, my advice is replace them both as you don't want to be doing it all again when the other one goes. If you do it, it will be very time consuming and if you get an Indy to do it, it will be very expensive. Good luck either way.

Just to cover all bases, try the HVAC reset:
With the ignition off, turn the left hand rotary knob to full cold, the middle and right hand rotary knobs to Auto, press the recirc and econ buttons together and whilst still pressed, turn the ignition on. Keep them pressed until the green lights start flashing then release. When the lights stop flashing the reset is complete.

You never know, might just do it....worth a try anyway!
Good luck!
