FD offers a "ferrari spec improved engine oil" for 4200/gransport.
This is a 10W60 and not the factory advised 5W40.
What do we have to think about that?

Not so good for cold weather climates, for sunny states it should be fine

The Gransport only runs from may-september, normally never at temperatures below 15 degrees. (no sunshine/less fun)
This holliday she will accompany us visiting Lake Garda for the first time, so i thought it might be nice to pamper her with an extra "solid" oil.

Sounds good Luuk , and certainly no adverse reason i can think of that it would do any harm , its always my view (right or wrong ) especially with engines that like to run hot that thicker oil has to be better than thinner oil

You'd need to be below -25 degrees to fall outside the defined parameters, so for most situations either 5w or 10w makes no difference. At hot operating temperature the difference is minuscule at between 3.8 x the viscosity of water as opposed to 4.1. (both of which are pretty 'pissy')

For me the problem with Shell Helix is that, with regular use, it sheers very quickly. This is 'suggested' in the owners manual with the get out of jail clause... certain driving conditions may lead to more regular oil changes being required. I have experienced this first hand and oil change every 6K miles was advised.

In my 4200 I ran 10W60 initially because I tracked the car. First time I used 5W40 and the oil was shot afterwards (easily noticeable with a loss of oil pressure (VII's breaking down / sheering) so I replaced with 10W60 and it lasted far better, so I kept on using it.

In the GS I am also now running 10W60 simply because I think the Shell is pretty poor oil. Whatever VII's they use are cr@p in my opinion ( well accounting for regular, often spirited use) A good indication was changing the oil after only 5 months ownership and 6K miles added. The oil came out black and changing to fresh 10W60 added at least half a bar of pressure when hot - again an indication that the VII's were sheering in no time at all.

Horses for courses and just my preferences...

10/60 always seems to get recommended on cars being tracked, and most cars i have/have owned. Lotus esprit s4 10w60, 3200 10w60, alfa 155 2.0/166v6 10w60 for "sportive use". BMw m cars ofetn 10w60. so i echo the above

In the UK and assuming you're asking about the 4200 / GS it's Shell Helix Ultra 5W40.

Yes 4200, hope it was the same in Italy and always the same during services, because I dont what kind it is now.
