Hmm. Tricky one. On the one hand, do I try to be sympathetic, attempt to understand the pressures the business she was in can bring. Or, do I stick to what I do believe, the most part of which was covered by "BennyD" above? Sadly, I feel it will be the latter. I have witnessed too many lives wasted, and squandered through drugs. Sorry.

Risking a strike, but pressure? Giveover. Pressure is making sure ATC can talk to an aircraft 100% of the time so that they can land an aircraft safely. (And other things working too) Pressure is not getting you head blown off defusing a bomb, or treading on an IED. I don't do crack or heroin to relieve pressure. Celebrities wouldn't know about pressure.

Seriously.....no black and whites on this....people make mistakes all the time.......my father was an alcoholic Ian.....lived in a pub........had a half glass of Guinness with his porridge as a child......alcohol was part of the culture...his life, up-bringing...he didn't binge drink or get drunk but with chronic long term exposure to it he became dependent.......no sympathy Ian...no understanding....no mitigating circumstances?

I always feel sorry for anyone that loses their life. When it happens to a Superstar and I thought she was brilliant at her peak, I still feel sorry for them. Superstars have a weird life, even though they have pots of money. They rarely get any privacy and are under pressure all the time, if they decide to get some relief by using booze, I can understand that. Unfortunately sometimes their so called friends and family, try to make them feel better by introducing other substances and use this to their own advantage. Moments of weakness affect us all at times and if your so low that you feel something might make life just that little bit better, you can be tempted. She was obviously vulnerable and taken advantage of, so I feel sorry for her. Obviously everyone has a choice and she made the wrong one, but that is weakness, it's not always stupidity. It's a great pity she was surrounded by people who obviously did not think enough of her to make sure she stayed healthy.

I think the truth is between the thoughts of Benny and Parisien.Agree that you can say 'no' when someone offers you drugs. BUT you forget what personal trouble someone is faced with. Every single one of us, has his own mystic paths, some paths that never come out. Music is for some people a way to express those secret paths, meaning that some musicians are not 100% psychological ok.Remember how Kurt Cobain acted. If we don;t listen to what massages our soul sends to us, then we do not have the mind to cure them, and we think, drugs are the solution.It's so simple, i think, but needs to be honest against our soul..

... and what makes an empathetic human. Sadly it's the, unseen to many, grey areas that can take their toll.

I had to break into my neighbours house with a claw hammer on New Years Eve a few years ago. Long story short, circumstances changed, some out of his control, others, not particularly his intention, but the sum of which suddenly overwhelmed him and he took a cocktail of whatever he found in his cupboard and washed it down with a pint glass of wine, just wanting the pain to stop. One of the last people you'd expect this from, but just momentarily lost his grip on things and became overwhelmed. I called 999, and the excellent speed and service of our NHS saved him. He's embarrassed and regretful and can't believe his own actions, especially as he'd had left his two daughters fatherless, etc. Hard working, confident and self made man. The few of us who know are shocked too, but, it's been kept quiet and he has had a full and fulfilling life since. Shame Heath Ledger wasn't so lucky
